You won't get a ticket because they have to ticket the driver, not the car.
Given that he only has the license plate, he would have to acquire info on the registered owner and then prove you were driving it...this would involve issuing a warrant and getting you to a police station to be officially identified by that cop. That simply won't happen. Plus he probably isn't stupid, he knows that you'd file a citizen's complaint for sure if he dragged you in and (start to) reveal what an a**hole he is.

Years ago, I had a Berkeley cop pull me over. Him and a backup cop had their big flashlights/clubs out (daytime!) and were casing my lowered Volvo with tinted windows and a plate that said "THE DRGN".
He said, "we pulled you over because of an expired registration". I grabbed the registration and said, "its 4-days expired, I'm sorry, I'll go take care of it right now".
To which, before I finished that sentence he exploded and yelled, "and you ripped past me back there going 45!" Umm...no, I saw him DOUBLE-PARKED 'back there' a block before I got to him and made sure to creep by at 25 (the speed limit). Getting a little bit of angst off his chest onto me, I guess.

And trust me, my appearance and the appearance of the two ladies in my car was not 'gang', it was 'geek stereotypical asian engineer'...he should've figured that out in the first 2 seconds and stopped swaggering around with his club flashlight and gone off to do real work.

BTW... When IS it okay to complain about a cop? I ask because I have a friend who utters the same sorta comments any time someone says anything bad about a cop. I understand, there are people that just whine and complain about ALL cops in general - and that's dumb.. But.. Unless this was a poser, this was a cop doing something.. Uncool. Since cops are supposed to set an example, obviously they are more 'in the spotlight' if they act like a jerk, but it's not any citizen's fault that he's a cop and I really don't buy that they can be jerks just because they have to deal with jerks.

Jason, you did the right thing. I would have passed him too. and there's nothing worse than an off duty cop trying to flex his "power" like that. He must of got called "**********" too many times in school.

but to tell ya the truth. i never drive off the line normal. i always speed off the line leaving everyone behind, so he would have never gotten in front to begin with.

Yeah I thought of this. My father (I'm a bit ashamed to admit) is a doctor who did regular work for the NYPD some years back. He was dubbed a "police surgeon" and he actually got a shield. It looks like a detectives shield, but about 2/3 the size. He would flash the thing like it was going to evaporate if it didn't see regular daylight. I got real tired of it real fast.

Honestly, he was 2 lanes away when he pulled his ***** out. It did look like a regular issue SFPD shield (silver star) from where I was... but yeah, who knows.

A cop with an X5? We're paying these monkeys far too much money. I had an almost identical experience about 2 months ago. Cop driving like a complete *****. I finally get sick of it and blow his doors off to get away from him. He catches up and flashes his itty bitty.....teeny weeny......little party favor sized.....badge at me and proceeds to spout off loads of garbage about my driving when him in his big bad SUV were just driving nicely. I got bent and chewed on him until the light saved him, but what does he do but cut me off again while he's trying to escape his reaming.

They should be driving like model citizens unless they are in pursuit or have the lights on and are on the way to a call. If they are in their personal car there is ZERO excuses as to why they drive like farging iceholes. In the cruisers they can drive 15mph impeding traffic in a 30mph zone but if we do it we are suspect. They run yellow or red lights because they can, regardless whether they are on a call or not, but if we did it they'd cut our heads off. I'm sick of the crap. Unless they are chasing someone or on the way to a call they are supposed to obey ALL traffic laws, the same as everyone else.

I had one with a chip on his shoulder last week on the way to work too, but this one was in his patrol car. There was a LOUD *** camaro in front of me. We both passed the cop sitting on the side of the road and the camaro gets on the highway while I continue on the road, can anyone guess who the cop follows? He pulls up along side me and started drifting into my lane. I honk at him and give him a nasty look which he returns but he stays with his tire over in my lane. I step on the gas to get a head of him a little so he's not 1 foot from my side but the ***** speeds up as well, so I go the other way and try to slow down but guess what, Mr. Assbite does the same, staring me down the whole time. I finally get fed up with him and as luck would have it the light ahead turns yellow. I start to roll down my window ready to give him a severe *** chewing but he all of a sudden stomps on the gas and the light was red LONG before he was in the intersection, he then flips a u-turn to go back where he came from. I watched him pull into the same spot he was sitting before he decided to play *****.

The only thing about cops that makes me nervous is that they carrying guns, aside from that I'll rip one a new *** if he wants to play big boy with me. I pay more in taxes a year than most of these monkeys make, and I'll be damned if I'm going to have some barely graduated high school, trigger happy, steroid using, nutcase intimidate me at all. Yeah I have illegal parts on my car, yeah I speed, if you're going to write me a ticket, do so. If you want to play games with me, be prepared for a new hole.

 

Just don't pull that crap in Fremont, they'll call SWAT out and shoot you dead if they even think you are armed.

 

next time, get their badge or car #.

then report them.
