Point and shoot digital camera

Hey camera heads...I'm looking to pick up a new camera. I can never really trust customer reviews on websites. Any suggestions on a point and shoot in the $200-300 range? I'd go SLR but my wife will be using it too and i know she won't want to use it if it is all "complicated".

I like this one based on the looks alone and takes vids in 720p....but not so sure how well it performs. Anyone have any experience with this one?

I think you should go slr.. they have a fully automatic that your wife could easily use.

or if you absolutely insist.. you should check out the samsung tl220 or tl225. has a dual display which is awesome if you take pics of urself.

i would avoide nikon point and shoots they are not nearly as good as there slrs. i would take a look at
canon sd980 and sd1400
or the panasonic lumix DMC-FH20 and DMC-FH3
i have played with all 4 of these at work in the last few of months and found them to take nice high quality photos and vids also the construction on them very good and they all fall in your price rang

Love my Canon SD780 IS, very small and easy to use w/ some sweet features once you get into it.

12.1mp (4000 x 3000px)
HD Video (1280 x 720, 30fps)
HDMI output
Takes up to 15 second long exposures, really fun at night.
Lots of other settings / adjustments.

Video sample, make sure to set it to 720p:

Sweet vid, looks good! Did you use an actual mount for that or was it a makeshift rig?

no

The V-Lux 20 is a near exact replica (same lens, sensor, LCD, and GPS) of the Panasonic DMC-ZS7 which lists for just $399 and is smaller

What AR said. S90 FTW! I think samsung is also coming out with a point and shoot that has a f/1.8 lens you might want to look into. The S90 runs about $370 though, so it is just a little over your budget. It is basically a Canon G11 in a compact body. A few taken with my S90:

1.

2.

3.

4.

FWIW we've used Canon's since digital cameras became popular, last year we picked up a Panasonic Lumix and I don't think we'll be going back to Canon's.

Look in the Lumix ZR1..
