Plan to drive at least about 2 hours away from the greater bay area, pretty much every road around here is paved.

Also folks here aren't usually liking to publicly post their favorite "playgrounds" better to hook up with someone who knows, or else go out and explore yourself.

I highly recommend the Benchmark Atlas when looking for roads. Benchmark shows unpaved as dotted lines whereas Delorme maps show everything as red lines regardless of condition, and AAA maps don't usually show unpaved roads.

i know of some local dirt. If you want me to tell you about it, you'll have to become my friend, have sleepovers, help me move, drive me to the airport etc.

My rally video is way up north. Like 3 hours north.

I havn't had much time to get out of the area to do exploring (been working 6 days a weeks for a bit) .. I was hoping some local backroads I've seen* a long trail of winding mtn section on Cumming Skyway to highway 4,(maybe even highway 1 or off 280 edgewood rd someplace), but thats only when im in my crap work vehicle , and believe me, that car wont go offroad neither will it go ON road ..

Holidays :: definately good idea to get a Atlas, pick a certain area to go to then with friends then into the FORESTT or dirtland..

kYLEMtnCRUZr: I'll be ur friend but just make me food and i'll bring beer , I dont kno about the sleepover bro lol.

Be aware however all the dirt there is loaded with asbestos (use to be a mine for it)

Also, its mostly 4x4 trails, stuff our subies don't do well on. Hell there are trails there that kick the snot out of my 4runner!

^ yeah, i crawled through a green circle in my RS, was on 2 opposite wheels once, 3 wheels most of the other times. It was a horrible experience. They do have smooth graded turns, but you would get into trouble if you were caught speeding into them. Maybe if you had a spotter with radio the ranger would let you off. But if there is a 15mph sign, even in an OHV park, they will give you the same ticket they would on the street. My friend almost got a 45 in a 15 ticket at Carnegie on his dirt bike.

I think the asbestos is at Clear Creek which is south of Hollister, but if not, i will get cancer for sure since I've been riding Hollister since 5

and original poster, the only local dirt i know of is bumpy and rutted, i ride my dual sport dirtbike on them, but never my car.

There is a Rallycross coming up in Antioch, you should try it.

I used to take my 4x4 truck and dirtbikes to Clear Lake. You can take Bartlett Springs road into the Mendocino Forrest, that should be fun.

I am sure offroading is not just one of the only reasons you love it up there, yes I am being stereotypical now

^^^Unless you're talking about the lovely redwood trees and the abundance of delightful festivals, I don't know what on Earth you could possibly mean

True that- Clear Creek is nasty with asbestos, I think it was a really stupid place to have designated as an OHV area.
