Picking out a lap top
I like the asus because it can go up to 16 gigs of ram. My desktop has 32 which I like I want to edit pictures in Adobe Light Room and Photoshop
ASUS N56VJ-WH71 Laptop Computer - 3rd generation Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, 6GB DDR3, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M, 15.6 Display, Windows 8 64-bit at TigerDirect.com
Any other suggestions? I am trying to stay in that price range or else I would get a republic of gamer or alien.

If you don't care about Refurb/Scratch & Dent, there's usually pretty good deals on Lenovo Outlet.

It's always hit or miss though as they randomly update the site with new laptops and new deals. The door busters are the really good deals that go quick though.

All of the laptops on the market suck ***. They are all designed to fail. On top of that, anything marketed as "premium" or special for gamers is retardedly overpriced. You don't need 16gb of ram to do photoshop work, 8 will be more than enough. More RAM/CPU power = less battery life, both = more heat. However, memory is cheap and if it makes you feel good just do it. I have a POS $500 ASUS w/8gb that does everything I require of it including photoshop, light gaming, and movies.
Whatever you buy, pay for a full coverage warranty for the length of time you plan to keep the laptop. In my experience, if you don't get the coverage, the laptop fails the MINUTE it's out of the manufacturer's warranty. This is not a coincidence, they are designed to fail and make you buy a new one.
My personal preference is the Lenovo Thinkpad line because the hardware is decent quality, they have a good accessory line, and they offer a 4-year coverage plan including accidental damage and next day service guarantee for ~10-20% of the cost of the laptop.

I have used & abused thinkpads for years now, swear by the X series for lightweight travel, but my most recent personal purchase was a T430 as a true desktop replacement. They just plain work and are solid & robust as anything. Downside is cost, a similar spec to that Asus will be ~1700...
Acers are great. If you can, upgrade the memory and replace the hard drive with a Solid State. Hard Drive Capacity is great, but speed is better IMO when working with Photoshop on a laptop. It's an easy way to get a performance machine while staying on a budget.

I have the 17inch republic of gamer is freaking awesome...if anything you can get the 15 inch but its about the same price, im in awe of their cooling system. But any asus would be good, i would avoid windows 8 quirkyness...i immediately put win 7 back on and put a solid state too.

+1 for Lenovo, -1 for Acer
The highschool I went to "encouraged" students to get acer laptops (They had some kind of deal), and the number of laptops I had to fix for my "friends" got really annoying (I was "that guy" everyone went to for computer help). I can't say what they are like now though, this was 8 years ago. Disclaimer: these were dumb high school kids who probably abused the **** out of their laptops as well.
Lenovo's X Series is part of their thinkpad line, and is geared slightly more towards mobility.
Definitely +1 on a SSD as well, I just can't go back to old platter drives anymore.
