What do you mean 2 channel only? It has optical out, I get Dolby Digital, DTS and THX out of it. It plays almost anything I've thrown at it. AVI, MPG, DIVX, XVID, and many others. Download legal videos, burn as data dvd(no need to re-encode the files), the pop it in the player and away you go. It has component out and it's progressive output looks better then my old $150 sony DVD player, although it still doesn't look as good as my Sony DVD Player with HDMI output. I originally bought it for my son, but when I saw how it looked on his TV I decided to throw it on my TV and was happily surprised. I have my sony 975(the one with HDMI outputs) in the living room on the on the Big TV, and the cheapy philips in my bedroom, nothing like burning your pr0n to a DVD-RW :P

i've been looking at this player for awhile now.. on videohelp they are saying that the new versions of this dvd player with new firmware is a lot worse than the older firmwares. ie video quality is worse and no ff/rw on non-dvd movies. and people are having problems flashing the newer hardware's firmware back to the older firmware. still might pick 1 up tho

on videohelp all the players bought in the past 2 months have been the newer firmware version. they started making the new ones in november i think. it shouldnt stop u from picking 1 up though. they are cheap and i am sure they'll come out with a new firmware to fix the video quality issues.

you can find out which version you have in the setup screen. run a search for firmware update/hack for the player and you'll get the instructions as well as site to download the newest firmware. it's really quite easy to do...just make sure you jot down the version you started from!

this is a great player for 60 bucks! you can play so many different formats with it.
