Pass smog with stage 2?

Ok, this is complete hear say. But Ive heard that a good catted DP will pass the sniffer.

Many have tried, I used to work next to the smog ref at wyotech and he had people come in everyday with modded cars that didn't know what was causing them to fail.

I passed the sniffer with just a catted TXS Stealth. High flow cat and my regular Stage 2 EQTuning Protune

It took a little massaging, and it just barely passed, but it did.

Keys were after the high RPM test, let the RPMs come down to idle very slowly, otherwise it dumps a little fuel and spikes the sniffer. And also have to keep idle close to 900rpm, if it went too low it was bad.

So what it sounds like no matter what kind of crazy setup you have. Have the car warmed up, fresh oil and a stock downpipe. You'll pass with flying colors via sniffer and tech being cool on the visual. Does that sound about right?

i'm trying to get my WRX smogged right now. I have the 3rd stock cat on and failed the idle test and barely scraped by the 2500RPM test. putting my stock downpipe back for now to pass.

Hey Joe,
My 02 with 170k miles and 80 k on the Helix catted dp/Borla Hush passed smog before I sold it. I told the tech I wanted test only first because I wasn't sure the motor was ok with the high mileage, thinking that it would give me a chance to put the stock dp on to re-test if nec and it passed the sniffer easily. Getting my smog done today. Wish me luck! I should be fine since my car is stock. After that, if I pass or WHEN I pass, putting on my Catless downpipe and Flashing Stage 2 (miss the stage 2 power - been so long).

don't try smogging catless at any station unless you know someone there
a catless smog will fail mostly because a tune made for power is a richer then normal fuel mixture and if your not tuned your A/F mixture is very far off.
most smog techs will do a visual inspection
then they flag your car as a gross polluter and you have to go to the state ref
(a high flow catted DP and a good tune will pass the sniffer test)
remember guys the state law is against modifications and if you get someone who is a di** they could fail you for being modified, just throwing that out there

I passed with flying colors with just a hi-flow DP.

I'm sure with a catted DP and a good tune, Subarus are pretty clean.

Bumping old thread....

I was running a TurboXS TBE and a Cobb AP Stage 2 map for the last year. Installed my stock exhaust and did nothing else and passed smog easily. Just for people with Stage 2 questions and smog.

Yes also to Add on, removing that uppipe cat will not fail you either I have an STi catless on in there with no EGT and resistor modded.

Haha just talkin about the ****ty catted uppipes...I'm running an sti uppipe with no resistor mods but haven't tried to smog it with this

Lol maybe a wrx with a catted up pipe you could barely pass with no down stream, but I doubt it.

I passed with a cobb "high flow" catted down pipe and stage 2.
