Overboost problem?

Car has been fine so far, but last Fri. I was driving home, give it throttle to pass and it cut power in a huge way, like I jerked forward. Then it boosts again. Got a CEL which I don't have the ability to check, so I reset the ECU and it went away. Checked hoses and vacuum lines and everything appears in order. Drove it mellow over the weekend and it was fine, no CEL. Today on the way to work it did the same thing. This time I happened to look down at my gauges and saw that boost was at nearly 20psi, which does not sound right for my car (no tune, stock map). It has never gone over 15psi before, so what exactly would cause this? It is at the shop right now waiting to be looked at.

that's exactly what happened to mine on Sat. It bucked super hard and through a CEL. I'll let you know what my code is when I pull it.

Check all the vacuum lines to the turbo, it's possible the wastegate line is either cracked or has fallen off.

Thanks. The shop will be pulling the code on mine hopefully shortly as well, so I will post up. I saw your thread and it did sound very familiar.

Shop just called, wastegate line cracked. Parts to be ordered. Code was wastegate flow high or something to that effect, like GST said.

Is it just a stock turbo and the stock line? I have a ton of those here if you want one for free?

He said apparently the nipple broke off, so that's what is on order. Stock turbo, stock line.

Won't know exactly what it is until I pick it up. I don't think it broke off on the actuator; what does it connect to on the other end? He said he would show me when I get over there. It is at Mann Eng. right now, since their shop is a few blocks from where I work. Had it over there on Friday getting some other work done, so wanted him to look at it first.

Picked it up and he showed me. It isn't a nipple, it was just a plastic union that broke, but upon inspection, the line that goes the the solenoid is pretty much cracked and ready to fail too, so going to replace everything.

Kind of annoying that a few dollars of parts can cause such major issues

Yea it's not uncommon for those lines to crack, after all they are exposed to some pretty serious heat day in day out.

Kinda surprised they lasted that long (106K) They look original That close to the turbo though, it is pretty much a given.
