Optima yellowtop experts. chime in!
i have posted this in another forum but since this is a local forum there may be a better chance for responses. anyways i have a coupe of questions.
first of all I ordered the yellowtop model D35. i hope this is the correct size?
second, i have heard people say that the yellowtop comes fully charged. however, the seller included a note saying "batteries are not fully charged when shipped. they must be charged before use". the user's guide also says it should be fully charged before use. Which is correct?
But since I have a charger I guess I can just try to charge it before use. This brings me to my next dilemma. in the user's guide it says to use a charger that is 13.8 to 15 volts. However, my battery charger is only 12 volts. Will I damage anything if I use my charger or do I just add more time?
If all is good, I will go ahead and charge the battery using my 12v charger @ 10 amps for about 6 hours as stated in the manual.
thanks guys

Yellow tops
Hello
I sell yellow tops at my shop and I never heard of them not being charged when we get them. I have a red top on my wrx and as long as the yellow is a reverse terminal then you should be ok.. I believe that the group number is a R35 or something but I have to check mine to make sure.

actually i found out the d35 was for the yellowtops and the 35r are for the redtops that fit the rex. so i dont think ill have trouble fitting this battery in but Im just not sure if i need to charge it first before use.

I'd think it can't hurt to throw a charger on it, they are probably undercharged leaving the factory and who knows how long they've sat somewhere.
Any decent charger will have an amp meter on it, if it isn't pulling much it is charged.
And nominal 12V batteries almost always charge at 13.4V, I'd be surprised if your charger was less than that unless its sourcing near its maximum current.

any chance you have a 35r around or a yellow top that would fit????
I need one.
I have the standard red top and it's flipped on its side to fit...ghetto fab. I'd like to pull it and stick it in my caddy and run a new red or yellow in the subaru.

Fully charging a battery before install is recommended all the time. It just helps lessen the load on the alternator. It's a good idea especially like someone stated, you don't know how long it's been sitting on the shelf.

I need a high output alt...I'm running the JDM fogs and an 800 watt stereo system. The damn thing dims everytime my fan kicks on....and my stereo hasn't worked in a week.
