You can probably find a nice '91 318is within your price range. I wanted to buy one of the member's e30 on here, but he sold it to someone before I could meet. E30, 4 banger, about 28-30mpg, cant be beat... unless it breaks...it's a BMW.

Love my new 2.5RS though! hehe

E30 would be my vote.. but if you had the money, the M3 is absolutely stunning! Really pricey at over 10k though.

If you had the money and you want to go all out with a crazy motor, 510 is the best way to go.

RS would be the best choice for a DD since it still has modern technology , reliable and parts are easier to find. VW and BMW are expensive to work on. I love E30's but parts are hard to come by and can be pricey. 510's are awesome and parts can be interchanged with newer nissan's just like the RS parts can be interchanged with newer subaru parts. Just depends on if its just going to be your actual daily or a daily/project car.

You're being too sensible! But you're probably right about the RS.

For a daily... I think they're all odd choices. If you're going VW just get a 2.0.

If you want a 510, the only way it's going to be a reliable daily is if you put a solid KA swap in one or buy one done already and at that point you're talking high dollars... putting you in to a very clean RS.

If it was a commuter/backup/toy car I'd say get the 510. But you're saying commuter so I'm saying none of the above. Get a honda.

im using it most as a DD/Toy... E30 get great gas mileage reading that the 4-bangers average 27-28mpg

if you can find a 1991 318is i would get that. They keep up with the 325i's pretty damn good and get great milage. thats what i was originally looking for but gave up after 3 months of looking and bought my 325is.

Gonna probably be easier to find a solid E30 for decent money than a solid 510.

Though for $4500 that one looks pretty nice. Be curious what's under the earl shibe though. Looks a little smooth to be going for so low.

Bring a magnet.
