Yes it does have a slight leak around the top crimps with splashes of coolant stained on the front covers of the engine.
I wonder what the dealer would say if we all took it there with mods...
" Sir you, we cannot fix it under warranty due to abuse! sorry"
Who wants to find out?
keeeeeeeeevin! keeeeeeeeevin ! What is your take on this one.
I have seen 20 plus WRX's at the shop with this coolant stain on top of the radiator etc..
cheers

hmmmm.... what things can cause radiator damage?
i higher flow water pump???? lol....
look, i think if this is a "recall" issue, if you claim you have seen numerous wrx's with small leaks, i say you visit a mod friendly place... say santa cruz or CKEVIN.
SOA needs to know about this...

Engine bay torquing causes radiator damage. I had solid engine mounts on another car and it ripped 3 radiators. I settled for stiffer but not solid links. Never had the problem again.
This was with an fwd, transverse mount.

Actually I'd say that's the way to go. However if this problem is common on a lot of WRX's then maybe you guys should write a letter to SOA or call bruce at santa cruz or kevin at carlson.

I have seen radiators peeing after an aftermarket radiator cap was added. Since the cap's spring is stiffer, the increased pressure will cause the "crimped" plastic radiator to leak.
I wouldn't try to take it to the dealer if you had a cap installed. Just get a new aluminum radiator and call it a day.
If you didn't, on the other hand, warranty it is.
Although, theoretically, a plastic radiator can be damaged after stiffer suspension was insalled. Who knows, they can find enough legidimate reasons which could be true.

okay, i think you're okay as long as they(the mod-friendly dealer) don't have to touch any aftermarket parts while replacing the radiator. you know, samco rad hoses, nitrous hoses, that kind of thing. BUT, if they wanted to refuse it, they would definitely have just cause.
And steve, you crack me up!! those plastic toy radiators are actually pretty sweet for cushioning the blow of your entire car landing on your front lip from 4 feet up. and also from softening the blow when your car shoots off a cliff and rams trees. although, come to think of it, i would have been really bent out of shape if i had an MRT installed at that point...
bottom line is that the stocker sucks ***, and MRT or PWR radiators dominate. if you want more safety margin or want to run more advance, that radiator is a great choice. it actually is a performance upgrade if you think about it.

nah ! i wouldnt wake ya up heheh. your cel is safe with me and daytime calls only .. i will visit you when I get the parts that we ordered and or maybe sooner.
I want you to take a look at the radiator and see if you can make what causes the leaks that show up but stops and leaves a nasty coolant stain everywhere on top of the radiator.
