Well, my day started off ****ty. I'm a Nurse...Murse at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto right...and we start off under staffed and it's hectic as all crap... and I'm bustin *** to make my "Time Management" work out. So I'm passing medications to a patient and he "jokingly" says something....Of all things...What is THE one thing you don't say while you're a patient in a hospital? Guesses anyone? Well, if you guessed "SUICIDE" YOU are a genius. No matter if the patient is joking or not, we take that ish seriously. So I document it and notify the doc. The doc goes and talkes to the patient while I'm listening to the conversation behind the curtains. And he's all pissed off SWEARS to God that he didn't say it and tells the Doc he knows who told her and he says "It was that ****in' asian guy!" I'm pissed off, he's pissed off...so the whole point of this is....DON'T effin' mention SUICIDE if you're a patient in ANY hospital cause we HAVE to take it seriously no matter what. Way to start a 5 day weekend huh...I'm still pissed off. Damn it.

Haha, the patient is a lot younger than you think he is. I'm 23, he's younger than I am.

 

sorry to hear that Khooda, but common sense is if you're a patient anywhere you should know better than to mention suicide around people who are there to see you are healthy and well.

 

So it's like saying "BOMB" at the airport, huh?

that sucks man. try not to let it get to you, people a lot of times will look for the easiest way to identify others in foriegn environments. It could have been an african american, latino, <insert race here>, and they still would have called you "That asian guy" if you were the only asian person he had seen at the hospital.

but yeah, if you see the kid again, make sure to give him something like eye drops with his water.

I just worked the whole summer in a bus factory. Racial comments get spit out all day long all day strong. (yes directed at me too)

But yea I'll take note not to ever mention suicide if I ever end up in da hospital. It is stupid though when people deny stuff that they just said.

But nah, it won't affect me much at work cause Nurses get a lot of **** from people are and under appreciated it...I'm used to it...so to say..

Well...it's actually off of Miranda. And do a better job at fixxing the computers! Our crap is always breaking down =P Hahaha

I've never understood the objection to the use of the term Oriental. What makes oriental worse than asian? Oriental is derived from the latin word Oriens which simply means the east, or far east (where the sun rises), because 'asia' is east of the 'westernized' world. Just as the opposite, Occidental or Occidio (where the sun sets), would describe those from the west. So how does a geographical description insult? If it's the Eurocentric complaint, well, frankly, too bad, we're in what is considerd a 'western' nation that primarily speaks latin based languages, namely English and Spanish. Should we take offense that the rest of the world, including asia, calls us the 'west'? I don't think so. You do realise that the word Asia is based in latin as well, right?
