Oil Pick Up Tube
If you haven't upgraded your oil pickup tube I highly recommend you do it. My shop just gave me this from my car.

Notice the hi temperature OEM Subaru welds at the ends? Talk about ****ty quality for something very important. End story my oil pickup tube broke while on the freeway last Saturday, freezing my engine, and seizing my turbo.

What model & year are your car?
What are you upgrading to?
Did you hit / run over something as that seems really odd that a part like that would just fail without a reason. From what I can see it looks like it didn't just break at the welds, but also part way into the piping which would make me think it took some kind of impact.

Yep.. Unfortunately this is becoming more and more common. We always use our upgraded oil pickups on all of our builds here for this reason.

Bummer man, that was the first thing I upgraded on my car. I purchased a oil pick up from Kmurphy, very nice. There is also the Killer B one too, which is also very nice.

sucks. when i got my 06 sti and found out about the pick up tube problem i didnt even want to drive it anymore. felt like walking in a mine field. finally got it replaced with a killer b at GST. apparently subaru never changed the part too so it may be effecting newer models anytime now.

75k miles 06 sti oil pan never touched the ground. I got a hi res picture of the crack and you can tell there was no impact, bends, or dents anywhere on the oil pickup. The one piece that came down the pipe is straight still. Its just really brittle metal and ****ty *** welds.
You can tell by the welds they did at the ends it was very hi temperature so the metal is brittle. Pisses me off because about a month ago I was about to pull the trigger on the killer B. Oh well. I was going to build up the engine anyways just sooner than expected.

Damn highest percent 30% almost, 71 failures for 06 in that thread. Look at the 1 year model vs. the entire 3 years of wrx's. I know it's a matter of who goes online and fills out the poll but still goddamnn. So Glad I just replaced mine, jesus this sucks. Should call and cuss out SOA. They should warranty the specific failure for longer since the part is ****.
