Even though it will drain out of the filter, some oil can still drip. My E46 was the same way, except you just unscrew the can and replace the cartridge. I thought it would leak too, but you just need to be careful when taking it off.

First you posted it in the "Bay Area" forum and not a "Tech" forum.

Then you should have SAID you've never changed oil before when you asked this.

Noobs beware the Bay Area forum LOL. It is pretty much expected to get **** in here. Learning isn't always a pleasant experience.

It is just the way people are on this forum, but there's a lot of good info too. You'll get used to it if you stick around here and see that it doesn't mean anything.
