Oil Filter Question

is this normal? the oil filter exposed like that, should there be a plastic cap that goes over it to protect it?

It's supposed to have a super indestructible carbon fibre cover on it that secures to the block with titanium bolts. Either that or it's exactly how it should be. I always forget.

see i knew it.... i knew they forgot the carbon fibre cover...ill have to call the dealership up tomorrow

The 2013 impreza. All of the new Subarus with the FB/FA engines have that location for the oil filter.

How do you not get oil everywhere when you change it? I always change mine when warmed up, this looks like disaster waiting to happen.

thats what i was wondering,
iv just got the car a few days ago,
so sorta threw me for a loop when i noticed it,
maybe that little lip around the edge catches the oil and it drains away
to a magical place where i dont need to worrie about it
