Man, Steven's Creek is SCREWING people at that price. Let me hide my shock at that

Seriously, just mail-order them. I got a case of 12 a couple months back, with the drainplug washers (which you should change every oil change), for about $70 delivered.

www.subaruwrxparts.com, which is Exeter Subaru in new england, sells a case of filters for $60, and I believe they throw in crushwashers too.

My local dealer charges $15/2 filters but if you buy 2 he throws in 1 for free and so it actually works out to $5/each. And he throws in crush washers. You can also check the book at Pep Boys. The one by my house always has them in stock.

Yeah, but buying OEM filters goes a long way towards avoiding possible warranty claim denials. I would say it's worth the extra buck.

Not directly- but having OEM maintenance parts like filters, PCV valves, etc. goes a long way towards not giving them an excuse to deny claims if you aren't having dealer services done per the recommended schedule. It's just more evidence that it was a material defect rather than neglect.

I believe Subaru's list price is ~$7.50, but hey, that's just capitalism at its finest.

We made a pretty decent glossary of oil filters specific for the WRX over at clubWRX.net. Check out this post.
