I mentioned in a couple of the other threads that I was trying to break a HUGE data barrier on my phone this month... Well I did it.

My billing cylce ends at midnight and here is what ive used as of now.

Less than 1GB of that is due to tethering... basically all the data was used on my phone :D

My previous max was just over 25BG :lol:

Holy data death. So if Verizon nails you with a over usage bill.. You going to post that as well.. They seem to do that to people over texting. So I would be worried they hit you the same way.

How could they charge me anything more?

I have unlimited data... I also have unlimited txt.

The only thing they could charge me for was the maybe 1GB of wifi tethering (because Im not paying them an additional $20 a month to tether).

Moto phones are now coming with a stock function called "smart actions" and I LOVE it!

It does exactly what you're looking for.

There are "triggers" and every "trigger" sets off "actions"

a few of my faves are
Triggers: Phone screen off, phones has no movement
Actions: Turn off background data, turn off sync
saves a ton of battery

trigger: bluetooth recognizes my car stereo
Actions: Starts GPS, turns call volume down, starts pandora

Read thru the description and it sounds pretty damn similar. Only downside is that its $6.49 but on the upside, its saying it should work on most/all phones, unlike the smart actions that are just Moto phones.

and if you can find a leaked .apk well then its free

Intredasting! I dont mind spending money on good apps but will that one allow me to do what Im looking for?

Jodice112 02-08-2012 05:14 PM

So can you root any android phone? Say if I had the Galaxy Note with ICS would I be able to root it right away?
So can you root any android phone? Say if I had the Galaxy Note with ICS would I be able to root it right away?
You can root any android.. it just depends on how much development follows certain phones. With my old Droid Pro, not a lot of ppl got it and thus there was far fewer ppl working to mod/hack it.

So depending on the phone and the OS version its on, will kinda determine what alls out there for "aftermarket support".

As far as the note, it hasnt been released stateside. So idk if theres root for it or not yet. There are Euro Notes out there and maybe some developers have taken those to get a start on US phones.

Whenever Im going to try something new on my phone, I search google and phone forums (especially XDA) for hours reading and rereading threads/how tos looking for what I want. Ive softbricked my phone before and there is normally a way back... but it requires more reading and searching, so why not just do it right the first time :)

stupidchicken03 02-09-2012 03:17 PM

I went with Bootstrap and Ive created a back up.

I also installed MyBackUpPro which will do a lot of the same, but it will also give you the option to freez/unfreez bloat ware. Does more than TitaniumBackup AND its a cheaper app (only the 2nd app ive ever paid for ).

And for whatever reason, if either of those methods fail/dont work.. I can always use RSDlight and manually push a stock image to the phone with a fastboot file :)

Ok folks! Pick me a new phone! I'm with at&t, not the best I know but I have unlimited data and don't want to change to verizon and lose that. I've had the iPhone 3gs for some time now (2 years) and it's dying. The battery is shot, and it drops apps and calls midway a lot lately. I would like a ton of memory, if possible. So, my questions are: Other than iphone, what else is out there? Do non apple phones work with iTunes? I have roughly 50GB of music so the more I can fit on it the better.

C/n: I need a new smart phone. Has to be with at&t. Whats good?!

If you get an android phone, you can install Google Music on your computer and phone. Its a clowd service. Upload your first 20,000 songs for free to the cloud. Then you can open your Gmusic app on your phone and its esentially your ipod without taking up memory on your phone.

There are a few 3rd party apps ive heard about for the iphones for Gmusic, bu they are not consistent at woking.

Droid 4 is released
double your data is back (pay for 2GB of data and get 4)
Droid Razr are buy 1 get 1 free

stupidchicken03 02-10-2012 08:57 PM

So as we all know.. last billing cycle i used over 100GB of data.

Today i went in and dropped off my parents plan, my wife dropped Sprint and we started our own plan. I made sure that my unlim data was staying with me.

So everything was taken care of and while we were setting up my wifes new phone, she picked up the Droid 4, the rep who was helping us said he had to take care of something urgent on our plan. Ummm ok...

So after the phone was done i walk over to him and ask whats up. He said the unlim data didnt stick annnnnnnnnnnnd ive got an overage charge from data.

The

Biggest

Overage

Charge

He's

Ever

Seen.

It was just over $52,000
I didnt believe him so he turned the screen and showed me. I BEGGED if I could take a pic but his manager was right next to him and he said no :(

But in the end it was taken care of and ive still got my unlim data

If you're going Android check out the Note, HUGE screen, LTE, and should be getting ICS soon. As far as storage size, I really don't pay attention to that, I have all my music up on Google music and stream it to whatever device I am using.

The US will have to wait a while. Plus it's still going to be Touchwiz-raped. So it will look like the current GS2 regardless

dresk 02-11-2012 11:57 PM

Went in to T-mobile to see how their "free phone" deal was working but it's nothing that exciting. They ended up bumping up the prices of their phones, requiring that you pay for them and then get a mail in rebate. You still have to pay $20/mo for the "deal" for 20 months so really, you're still paying the normal price for the phone.

Should have seen that coming.

stupidchicken03 02-12-2012 09:39 AM

My brother in law had one of the recent windows phones. He basically got it just so he could log into his XBL account and do little things.

I personally didnt really like the feel and layout of the phone. Functions and controls were kinda weird, but thats just me. I dont really stay current on Win phones and I have no idea if they have done any type of overhaul lately.

iLoqin 02-12-2012 12:18 PM

Went to Valley Fair. The big time apple store, with workers in blue, and a windows store that opened up in red, across from apple.

Apple's products still shine when comparing computers devices. Although the asus @999 is supposedly comparable to a macbook air. Not quite.

As for phones... I kept speaking to my friend about picking up a droid or windows, and he keeps talking me out of it, just all the wrong things in a phone. But droids are widely popular and growing fast. I'm going to sit and wait to see, and hope that at&t comes out with more 4GLTE phones... or else maybe by summer I'll be ready to switch to Verizon, since it has such a wide band of 4GLTE phones, and you aren't going to be capped on data as bad.

As for the unlimited plans, I'm being more enticed to think about tethering my computer with the speeds that I see to mobile phones compared to just paying for home internet. Pretty amazing to see those speeds much faster, but of course depends on location. And also depends on getting capped if you somehow hit the top 5%.

But chicken sure demonstrated that he can do a lot of data without getting capped. =0

If you switch the Vz, you wont get unlimited data (at least not right off the bat).

If you're going to tether for home internet you're supposed to pay an additional $29.99 (which is prolly cheaper than what most are currently paying for home internet). After you add the hotspot to you're plan, you can tell/ask them to bump it to unlimited data. Im not 100% sure thats still working, but as of last month or so, people were still doing that.

Now ive got a recovery for stock 2.3.6 and ill be freezing again and creating another recovery.

stupidchicken03 02-13-2012 07:53 PM

oh and I kinda F'd my phone today :ohwell:

So late last week i installed bootstrap and created a backup.
Sat an OTA was released and i upgraded from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 and created another backup.

I wanted to test them out so i flashed my first backup back down to 2.3.5 with no problem. Then flashed back to 2.3.6 without a problem either.

Today while at work, i decided to freeze all the bloatware on the new upgrade. I froze THE EXACT SAME LIST of items as I did before. Reboot the phone for things to finalize, and I get stuck in boot loop :(

Finally make it into recovery mode and do a factory reset.
Reroot the phone, install bootstrap and boot into CWR.
Flash failed :(
Try my other backup and again, flash failed :(

So looks like im going to have to set up everything all over again... twice within the last week in a half :ohwell:

That blows. Aren't there any custom debloated roms out there? I would think that the RAZR has a pretty decent following by now.

stupidchicken03 02-14-2012 12:08 PM

Ive been reading up on it. Seems like it might have been user error on my part :o

Im sure there are bloatfree ROMs, but I dont care enough haha. If I ever wanted to update from another OTA, Id have to install the stock ROM anyways. Never been too excited about playing with ROMs, just seems like more could go wrong.

Phone is back up and running and starting fresh with a new backup. Took a couple extra steps of clearing all the app data from BS this time around.

Jodice112 02-19-2012 10:35 PM

I was so close to getting a Galaxy Note today until at the last minute when the lady told me I still have another 10 days to upgrade. She wouldn't budge on it either.

Might just drive to San Jose to pick it up then.

10 whole days?! I did an upgrade today that was 30 days out!

Jodice112 02-19-2012 11:37 PM

Yeah and then she was like, "Well if you get U-Verse maybe we could get you the upgrade today."

I just said no thanks and walked away.

Phone looked amazing in person though, I can't wait to mess around with it.

And that's what is ****ing wrong with salespeople. "What am I getting out of it" mentality needs to ****ing go. She had all the power in the world to do it now regardless if you bought something or not.

Jodice112 02-20-2012 01:34 AM

Yeah she was extremely pushy in trying to get me to buy stuff. First was for a case that I really don't need, then she pushed hard for the insurance, then for a deal with Galaxy Tablet/iPad 2, and then finally trying to get me to get U-Verse.

After all those attempts failed, she basically brushed me off and said she couldn't do anything. I didn't feel like calling out her manager about it so I just left.

Seriously.. I hate that ****.

10 days... really... they should be happy they are getting a repeat customer...

Jodice112 02-20-2012 07:03 PM

Haha I came back today and got a new salesperson but the same one from yesterday was still there. And he just straight up sold me the phone right in front of her. That's what she gets.

Loving the phone by the way. This screen is freaking awesome. I need to get familiar with the phone first before I try to root it.

stupidchicken03 02-20-2012 09:53 PM

I wouldnt mind playing around wiht the note. Its a beast (in size and performance):lol:

Jodice112 02-20-2012 10:10 PM

Yeah I can barely reach the A and Q on the keyboard with one hand lol.

stupidchicken03 02-21-2012 08:10 AM

is it running 2.3.5 or .6? or 4.0

Jodice112 02-21-2012 08:15 AM

2.3.6 right now. So how do you turn off 4G? I went to network settings but couldn't find it anywhere.

Gingerbread on my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket has appeared to stall DURING the software update. Started the update this morning at about 7:00 and the screen has not changed. Should I try shutting it off during the update? Should I pop the battery out? Will either of those options brick my phone?

Also I lift my boycott of this thread, it is ok I guess.

Is it downloading the OTA or installing the OTA?

Because you will download the install file, where you can keep using your phone. But when the install happens, you phone will shut off and reboot to install the file (prolly a black screen with a yellow status bar).

Also:
Did you root the phone?
Did you freez any stock bloatware?

You can get the LTE Switch from the app market. It's free if I remember correctly. Takes you right to the page that stupidchicken was referring to.

There might be other apps specific for the Note.

Not rooted nor did I freeze any bloatware, it downloaded the update and than prompted me to restart to allow the update to load. After I restarted, it is frozen at the update loading screen. I am on the phone talking with at&t they want to warranty it with a refurbished one. Why should I have to get a refurbished "farted on" phone? The thing is only like 40 days old, just send me a brand new one!

Tried it and a few other but all they did was leave me on the network page with no LTE option. Well there isn't LTE here anyway so I don't know how bad my battery is being drain. But this phone sucks battery like a whore sucks ****.

Yesterday by around 7pm I had 10% battery left. Semi-heavy usage for 10 hours. 35% of my battery was drained by the screen and 36% by the internet

its cuz of that BIG ass screen.

I just watched a vid on youtube comparing the Razr Maxx and the Note.
Not only is the Maxx screen smaller (better battery life), the battery is larger too.

That is the BS that really pisses me off. I buy a NEW phone. If its crap. I want a NEW phone in return.
With VW, I was able to push and get a new Razr, and Lapdock from them. But I had to get to level 3 customer service. At the time I had the Bionic. That was the worst phone ever. I had it 10 days and it crapped out. Was sent another one that was bad from the get go.

I ended up telling them. All they are going to do is send the phone back to Motorola anyways, Its not going to cost VW anything. But a 10 year customer at this point. So my stuff with replaced new with the Razr and all my bionic stuff was upgraded to Razr stuff as well. All I did was send the Bionic stuff back to VW. Been very happy ever since.

But that new phone for a used phone stuff is crap!

Yeah the Note only has a 2500mah and the Mazza has a 3300mah battery.

But I'm thinking of getting the mugen 4500mah extended battery + back. It makes the phone a bit thicker but it also adds in a kick stand.

I looked into the extended batteries for the Charge and makes the phone look wonky.

stupidchicken03 02-22-2012 04:10 PM

Yea the extended ones deff add some gurth..

Whats awesome is that the Maxx batter will fit right into a regular Razr if you use the Maxx backplate :D

Today Verizon wouldn't let my sister upgrade her phone A DAY EARLY. She is going out of town and wanted to get a new phone before she went. I guess customer service is now dumbed down to an idiot with an iPad telling him what to do. She's on my parents account that has been around since the airtouch days. Such bull****

Jodice112 02-24-2012 05:15 PM

I had the same upgrade BS. Had to wait that last minute. You'll be happy with the Razr. The web dock 500 rocks!! If you can swing it.

Jodice112 02-24-2012 10:30 PM

I wish I had the maxx's 3300mah battery :(

Is that 11000mah external charger on Amazon any good? I'm in dire need of more juice.

Was reading about how At&t has been stiffing the dudes with the grandaddy unlimited throttling them at 2gb where as the newer tier doesn't get jacked 'til 5gb. Either way, at&t is really sucking ass with 4GLTE and they rape their oldest owners. Way to go gayt&t. I'm getting closer to rockin' one of those new razors on verizon's network. I heard they newer razor has a better battery, as well as a bit thicker frame.

I was reading yesterday that some guy took AT&T too small claims court for throttling him and won $850. I have a feeling that ever since that lady took Honda to small claims were going to start seeing this sorta thing a lot more. Maybe companies will start to get the idea.
