^ This kind of tech is only going to get sexier, wow.

Jodice112 02-28-2012 07:50 PM

I can imagine the battery life on that thing being about 30 minutes

stupidchicken03 02-28-2012 08:08 PM

I was reading up on the Beam Monday at work. Amazing concept. But yea, i wonder what the batter life would be like. And how clean the output video is.

**** instead of hooking my phone up to HDMI to my tv, i could just lay in bed and watch netflix off the ceiling

iLoqin 03-01-2012 11:46 PM

Heard the output was terrible, everyone who has one doesn't use it. It's too limited to be useful for a useful presentation.

The Samsung Note is too big. Phones still don't know the limits of how big they'll get, but that is just way too big. I bet that sets the limits as too big for a phone.

Jodice112 03-02-2012 07:07 AM

Nah I don't think the Note is too big. It's definitely big but I can easily hold it in one hand, text with one hand (with the help of Swype) and it fits in pretty much all of my pants pockets.

Coming from the tiny screen of an iPhone, it's a huge relief not having to squint and have the phone 3 inches away from my face to see text on the internet.

stupidchicken03 03-02-2012 08:49 AM

i kinda wanna drop into a ATT store just to play with one for a bit

iLoqin 03-05-2012 11:24 AM

^ That information keeps pushing me towards going Verizon. It's kind of sad that at&t admits throttling folks @ 3gb. Like wow?

As for the Note vs Iphone in screen size, the note is too big for my liking, and the battery drain must blow on it. The new iphone releasing later this year should have a bigger screen, not massively big like the note, but big enough. Probably a 4.3 or something. But I'm wondering if the iphone 5's are released to verizon, too.

Jodice112 03-05-2012 11:26 AM

Yeah Verizon is doing the double data right now but I don't plan on switching until they bring back the unlimited plan.

stupidchicken03 03-05-2012 11:34 AM

I dont think they will ever bring back unlimited (for new customers) :ohwell:
Did they say what caused it?
The guy I talked to on the phone (at Samsung) said that the "air update" had a fault/interruption while downloading and when it tried to install the update it fubared. I asked if this was a common problem and he said YES.

So now I know to turn off "air updates" and never update my phone.

Jodice112 03-06-2012 11:53 AM

ICS won't be coming to the Galaxy phones till the Ides of March :ohwell:

The galaxy s3 will be out in 2 months with a quad core 1.5!! Might have to skip on the iPhone 5 haha

Do any tuners make apps for the android market? Imagine if Cobb made one, you could get the advantages of having an AP without the extra cost of the handheld unit.

yea ive heard that some samsung phones have issues with OTAs. They do have it (at least some do) where you can install the update on your PC and push it to your phone, so you dont fall behind the times

Unless you're going to pay $400+ for an app :faint:

Instead of charging $595 for an AP, you charge $250 for the app that would do everything the AP would do. With so many people having smart phones, it would increase sales even though they would make less per unit. Just sayin'

stupidchicken03 03-06-2012 05:13 PM

I can't see anyone paying over $100 for an app.

And by doing so there's the high probability that ppl will hack the app and make it free.

I need to find a new phone this POS Charge is getting on my nerves.

queeg9k 03-21-2012 09:37 AM

OK tired of having to charge my phone 2-3 times a day when I am streaming stuff and surfing the internets. What do yall know about extended batts. for phones.

Stock batt in my phone is 1850 mAh
Mugen Power Slim Extended 2000mAh $45 (standard size batt)
Seidio Innocell Super Extended 3800mAh $66 (oversized comes with new back cover)
Mugen Power Extended 3,800mAh $92 (oversized comes with new cover)
Andida Extended Slim Battery 2250mAh $14 (standard size low price raises red flag)

Anyone know anything about the above brands?
Not sure if I want to use the oversized ones, than my case will not fit and I have a hard enough time getting it in my pocket as is. I know the slim one does not have much more power over the stock batt. but the slim size is preferable.

stupidchicken03 03-21-2012 10:15 AM

slim wouldnt be worth the money..

if you need more battery, the extended ones would be the way to go. That or you buy an external battery charger to charge your phone on the go.

queeg9k 03-21-2012 10:46 AM

Been reading up about putting a small solar panel on the back of the case and running the cord through the back panel straight to the batt. Not sure if it is a good idea yet need to do more research.

I had a Seidio extended battery on my old phone(evo 4g) and never had an issue with it.

Just got a Samsung 2200mAh for my GNex on amazon for $25. Usually lasts me a day but I carry a spare with me.

Jodice112 03-21-2012 10:40 PM

I'm thinking about getting an extra OEM 2500mAh Note battery for $20 on Amazon. This battery life sucks donkey balls.

i think my razr is ****ed. I'd say i dont get 1 out of every 10 text. When i answer calls 1 out of 4 times i cant hear the other person, call back and its fine. I just hate that im going to go into verizon and all they are gonna do is check to make sure i have the latest software and then reset my phone and tell me to see if that fixed it. Why cant they just plug in and "data log" my phone?!?!

stupidchicken03 03-30-2012 11:29 AM

because almost everyone in store are n00bs.

Call customer support and tell them its been going on since you got the phone and the last update didnt fix it. After some complaining they should send you out a new one with a return package to send in the old one.

queeg9k 04-19-2012 08:47 AM

So I just put Blade Runner on my phone and for some reason the Russian subtitles are on. How the heck do I turn them off? They are off when I play it on my computer but on when I play it on my phone. There seems to be no menu option for subtitles. Anyone have a similar problem?

So there was an update rolled out to my phone. .181 it was a go, then we heard it was getting scrapped because 4.0 was supposed to roll out.. then it was back on..

I got the update notice last night and put it off till i got to work this morning so i could read up on it.

People were claiming faster data speeds after the update. I figured "yeah right, im already getting great speeds"

So i did a speed test before and after the update.

.173 is before and .181 is after.

Faster speeds : banana : :lol::lol:

Verizon is really killin' the lead with a lot more choices of smart phones that are on 4G LTE and the coverage. Still waitin' for gayT&T to catch up... and yes I'm going to wait for the 2012 iPhone with 4G LTE. I want a phone that works, without having to **** around with it like I had to do with my blackberry connecting it to the PC all the time.

In the that's what people want. Simplicity and enjoyable usage. Droids have been waitin' on updates since the dawn of time and also been waitin' on regulation on their apps. Openware... malware, all bad.

Steven@Coach 04-25-2012 08:37 PM

Android malware is not really an issue, just like with other computers don't be dumb and you'll be ok. Don't go installing some porn app from East Bloc website. As far as not getting upgrades, yeah it can be a mess but you can always get the Nexus phones.

I'm also interested to see what the next iphone will be. If it is packing at least a 4" screen, LTE, and iCloud gets better it might be my next phone.

TheFozz 04-25-2012 08:52 PM

Hopefully not a re-post, Tom Raimes (Owner of PortolaValley Garage) makes these and it comes w/ a free app: IOpener, a Bottle-Opening Case for the iPhone | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

iLoqin 04-25-2012 09:10 PM

Also add in that there are rumors it will be a bigger screen with the LiquidMetal as the shell, they purchased for 20mil a bit ago, too sexy to pass-up! Plus I like a smooth metal feel vs the glass feel.

As for WWDC, Apple has anounced it to begin June 11, just hope and pray they display the new phone.

And if anyone didn't figure it out yet, Apple is trying to move to a new trend that sounds like the naming of a car. So instead of iphone 1, 2, 3, 3gs, 4, etc. They're moving toward the car model which is like a "2012 Mercedez" hence "The new iphone" or for future matters the "2012 iPhone."

People are getting confused with their phone, and the capabilities of things like 4G or 3G, 4G LTE, so the easier way to fix that problem is just going with the standard year, this way its' easier for their customer service reps to trouble shoot much faster when you say you have the "2013 iphone/ipad" etc.

Jodice112 04-26-2012 07:40 AM

Even a 4" screen would still be too small for me. After using this Note for 2 months and then trying to use an iPod, it feels really weird and it strains my eyes more.

stupidchicken03 04-26-2012 08:15 AM

Plus you can run antivirus apps on your phone haha.

Can set up daily/weekly scans plus it will scan all newly installed apps, just like a PC :)

Actually this is why I am waiting for the iphone, the fact that I don't have to do this. I just want a phone that works. Right now the iphone is the staple of any mobile/web app made. Companies know that it runs the basis mobile computing. Android is catching up, but the whole idea of updates and OS and so on and so forth is a pain in the butt.

I want a phone that works, the cloud is nice as it saves everything on all my machines. Makes life easier.

stupidchicken03 04-26-2012 11:35 PM

Google has the cloud too.

And i bet iphones have system apps running in the background too. And I could have sworn they still get OS updates??

$hane 04-27-2012 10:59 AM

I have the same phone as thomas but unrooted, running stock rom and it works just fine. Think of it as a car, im stock and he is running stage 2. At least with android you have the option to go stage 2.
The latest update seems to have cured my not receiving text problem. I guess they knew it was coming so thats why they didnt give me a new phone straight away.

I am much happier with my razr than i was with my iphone 4.

Thats a really good perspective to put it into, something that we can all relate to.

And when you start using custom ROMs and Kernals.. then you're talking about stage 3 and up haha

Samsung Unveils GSIII Complete with Own Version of Siri
Specs for the Galaxy S III include a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 display; a quad-core Exynos processor; 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera on the back with a 1.9-megpixel affair up front (as opposed to the 1.3-megapixel lens that was rumored); Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top and new gesture functions to improve navigation; and HSPA+ support (Samsung is also working on an LTE model). The whole package will weigh in at 133g and measures just 8.6mm thick. Samsung says the device is supposed to mimic the 'warmth and beauty' of nature.

As far as software is concerned, Samsung's bundled in some nifty new features, including voice capture for photos (no more reaching around to try to stab the capture button on the touchscreen!), as well as Smart Stay, which keeps your phone active when you're using it using the front-facing camera to detect your face. S Beam is an expansion of Android Beam that uses WiFi and NFC to let you share photos and videos (Samsung mentions a 1GB clip being shared in three minutes and a 10MB music file skipping across to a buddy's phone in two seconds).

S Voice is Samsung's answer to Apple's Siri, and the company is describing it as an 'advanced natural language user interface' that listens and responds to your words. You can tell S Voice to 'snooze' if your alarm goes off and you're not quite ready to leave bed, you can use it to play your favorite songs, send texts, emails, organize your schedule or, like we mentioned, take photos.
The US will get the version with the Snapdragon S4 Dual Core since the Exynos doesn't support LTE yet. That being said the S4 actually gets better benchmarks

stupidchicken03 05-04-2012 09:12 AM

Stupid.. i prolly wont pick one up then :(

Anyone know any app designers/programmers? I have a killer idea for an app and need some advice on where to get started.

stupidchicken03 05-11-2012 01:06 PM

I dont know of anyone personally.. maybe just start emailing some devs off XDA or the market? lol

One of my friends at work has it. He was holding out for like 8 months to upgrade his phone to the Gnex haha.

He really likes it, but hasnt done too much to it since he took it out of the box.

I've had one since it's launch and it's the best Android phone I've had.

Right now it's just rooted w/ stock OS, but even that's good. Only thing I don't like is the cam. It can take clear and fast pics, but the colors and lighting are just a bit off.

fizay 05-12-2012 02:57 PM

yeah, I've had one since December, and in the first 2 weeks I regretted my purchase (since my monthly went from $35 to $85). Since then, I've learned how to overcome some shortcomings (mostly 3G/4G handoff and other wakelock battery drains), and the AMAZING dev. community behind ICS, specifically towards the gnex is the ****!

Camera does suck bawls though, but I think it's worth the tradeoff. I'm excited for Jellybean to come out!

stupidchicken03 05-17-2012 12:05 PM
