Sucks that Japan lost, and in penalty kicks to boot.

I friggin HATE penalty kicks! It's such a ****ty way to find out who the better team is! I mean, they play for 90+ mins, then play another 30 mins of OT... They work their ASSES OFF and for it to come down to something as trivial as penalty kicks to determine who the better team is? In my opinion (as well as every other soccer fan I know, please feel free to chime in on this) they should play until someone scores, keep going with the sudden death OT periods until someone finally puts the ball into the back of the net. It would not only show who the better team was in the end, but it would also show which team has more endurance... After a while one team will start getting tired which should make it easy for the other team to score. I doubt soccer fans would get really mad at the fact that they get to watch more soccer, especially in OT! It'd be much cooler than watching lame *** penalty kicks.

How do you guys feel about penalty kicks to determine who the victor is in the chance that there is a tie at the end of two sudden death OT periods? Do you guys think it's a fair way of breaking a tie? Do you think that the game should go on until someone scores? Someone has to score at some point. They could make a limit of 20 OT periods or something in the small chance that it's still a tie after 20 OT periods and THEN go to penalty kicks, but after 2 15min periods? Penalty kicks are teh lame.

Also, I'm really glad FIFA stepped up and admitted that their current system of reffing is flawed and that they are really considering technology for the goal. Be it instant replays or a microchip inside the ball which will tell you if the ball went in or not (which is the system that will most likely be adopted). It's a big step in the right direction. It still doesn't solve the off sides problem, like we saw in the Mexico game a couple of days ago.

i think penalties are great. its the most nerve-racking moment!
and its where the goal keeper can shine and receive the most attention. the players are under tremendous pressure. komano would be facing seppuku in the older days of japan lol

I like the PKs, its a huge demand on individual talent and also, like Jin said, allows the keepers to shine if they make a stop, and win the game.

if they let a shot score, that's what is suppose to happen. If they make a stop, they are a superstar!

yeah, but there's only so much a goal keeper can do to stop a PK... There's a lot of gambling on the goal keepers part which takes away the talent and makes it a thing of chance, and to me that's lame.

I was a goalkeeper for YEARS so I know what those keepers are going through in the PK portion and it sucks to have the game decided based on something like PK's because it's not all skill, it's A LOT of chance. It's easy for a player to fake out a keeper by making it look like the ball is going in one way but to kick it in and have the ball go the opposite way. I agree that PK's are the most nerve racking part of the game because you never know what will happen because it's all a big gamble... The worst team in the world can beat the best team in the world in a round of penalty kicks, and that says a lot.

maybe the worst team deserves it for tying the better team. i think there's some degree of expertise when it comes to goalie on penalties. nothing can be done about perfect penalty shots but i think a good goalie can make a difference to mediocre shots.
