OBD II code reader

Does any one in the san jose-milpitas area have a obd II code reader I can use. My CEL came on today, I think it's the gas cap that is casuing the CEL but just wanna make sure it's not the new up pipe I got installed on Tuesday that's causing the problem.

I went to auto zone but all their OBD II code readers are checked out so I just wanted to see if anyone had one tonight, if not I'm just gonna go back to auto zone tommorrow and get my code pulled.

thanks,

Jason

This might be a stupid question, but did you call any other Autozone to see if they had a reader available?

yp.yahoo.com shows 3 in San Jose, and one in Santa Clara.

I know I was just being lazy becasue there is an auto zone that is only 2 minutes from my house. The next closet autozone is father away...I guess I'll just get off my lazy a** and go to the other auto zone.

No, in fact they'll loan you equipment for free. If you pull the code in the parking lot, they'll either ask to hold onto your liscence or a credit card. If you want to take it home, they'll ask for a credit card to which they can charge you, if you run away with the loaner and never return.

Since they only have a limited amount of loaner equipment, it's usually best to call ahead to see if what you need is there or at another location.

Oh, as an aside, I think Autozone (or at least the one I went to) will give you money for your used oil. Mind you, it's not a lot of money, but the goverment says your supposed to get money for your oil, not have that money pilfered by Kragen or Speedee.

ok went to autozone and pulled my code, it's code P0546 so it is my new up pipe that caused the problem. gotta call up MPJ now and see what they can do since when they installed it they said they would take care of the resitor mod to elimnate the CEL.

Oh btw autozone had me check out the code reader, had to put it on my card but they returned the money. the code reader is really really simple to use, just plug it in and it's ready to read the code.

Very simple - the reader includes some simple instructions.

I believe you just plug it into the port below the steering column, turn the ignition to the "Accessories ON" position, and hit read codes - something like that anyway. It should give you a numeric code, as well as a short description.
