Question The oakland trek...

Heya,

I'm a white kid. Not pink white like a labrat, but you know - white, my arms are a bit brown, and my hair is black and greasy - but i'm a welsh kid and if you looked at me, it wouldnt take you long to go "hey, white kid". Upon hearing this i would nod, because yes, i'm white - and i'm also assuming you were talking to me, because i'm presumtuous like that.
Anyways, you get the picture - i'm a white kid.

Dig on this :

I live on grand and perkins down by lake merrit. I need to somehow get a bike route from there to doyle and powell in emeryville via BMX bike. I checked my route up san pablo from downtown oakland and that **** is rough. I don't know if i should try and make that trip.
So, am i being paranoid? I'm from the hills outside sacramento, so needless to say im not streetsmart. Like, im the kid who would try and jump his razor scooter through a crack deal then start singing "bad to the bone" at the crackdealer, all out of tune. (you have to imagine a bike helmet sorta tipped to the side, much like how a retard would sport one - yeah, thats me).

Do any of you guys know which street is safer? Telegraph, MLK, college, or san pablo for an idiot white kid on a 24" bmx cruiser?

Should i just drive and save myself some glock-kisses?

I would go down San Pablo and not worry about it.
Otherwise, Hollis St runs parrallel once you get to 40th. I'd only be worried after dark.

I actually think it more unsafe to drive on San Pablo than bike. So many effin potholes.
The best thing is that you have many choices for liquor stores on the way home.

alright, i'll try not to stress about it. I'll just pop a bunch of xanax and do my best to look hella buff.
by hella buff i mean putting on my cardboard voltron suit.

I live on Euclid about a block off Grand. Grew up in Oakland too, and I'd say San Pablo is a fine way to go. Probably the fastest as well. Just take 27th to San Pablo and you'll be good to go. Just try to avoid running into the crack dealers and prositutes around 35th

I am so glad I moved out of Oakland. Have fun on your bike ride! (bring a kevlar vest)
