Well, my plane is in 3 hours. any good places to eat in Manhattan? I'm gonna be staying right by time square for a week. For people that has visited the city, or lived there, give me some good advice for nice or cheap restaurants! I like italian, japanese, mom and pop breakfast joints.
which one? nice or cheap? lol...
just don't go to any restaurants anywhere near where you are staying. times square is ridiculously priced and the food sucks. I'd head down to greenwich village, china town or little italy... can't remember the name but there is an awesome falafel spot on macdougal st. right next door to the olive tree cafe. good place to go at 3am after bar hopping. the hot sauce is a must.
Italian? I always liked sambucca on 72nd just off of CPW, but its pricey. its family style so the dishes are huge... you might also just go to little italy and pick a spot. can't remember the names of the places I went, but I could remember if I saw them.
pizza is good almost anywhere... but not everywhere.
the problem is that stuff changes pretty damn fast in new york. restaurants have a life cycle of like 1-2 years there, so I can't give you more specifics (been out here for the last 3 years now). All I can tell you is stay the F away from times square... you'll find the same **** there you can find in a mall out here. completely garbage.

First step is to get away from Times Sq. Nothing there is cheap and after you take a few pictures there's nothing left to do.
Go to Little Italy for good Italian and Chinatown for Chinese... duh, I know. Look for little hole in the wall places, they're usually cheap and good.
Honestly, NYC is so big and has so much you'll be fine no matter where/what you do. I'd say get out of Manhattan and go see Coney Island before it becomes pretty and yuppiefied. Go walk around the LES, walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, check out the little 'less known' neighborhoods. The tour buses and maps are for people from Kansas who like pretty lights.
