WHERE:
Altamont Motorsports Park http://www.altamontmotorsportspark.com/
About 20 minutes from Pleasanton or 10 minutes from Tracy .
This is a real track with minimal cones. Not a parking lot!
HOW MUCH:
Total cost for all day is $80. This covers the Driver & the car. Extra persons are $20 ea. I want to encourage people to come & show off thier rides even if they are not running the coarse. If you aren't going to get on the track then it is only $20per head. You can always buy the racing bracelet after you see the action for the remaining $60. ENTRY FEE WILL INCLUDE LUNCH!
DETAILS:
This is an all day event.. Lots of run time with at least 2 different track configurations.
All varieties of cars are welcome & beginners to experts expected.
Great fun for a first timer & challenging enough for a veteran.
This is a private event hosted by the people for the people.
There will be multiple run groups small enough to get you a couple laps per series.
You will also be asked to work in the safety area for a group to help pick up knocked over cones
We will have a timing system to measure your lap to the 1000th of a second. Times will be posted after each run group.
A couple sponsors have signed up & will be offering Prizes, awards & a raffle for cool stuff. Things like FREE PARTS, DYNO'S, OIL CHANGES, ETC.
More sponsors will be joining as we get closer. Awards will be given for both track layouts & for overall performers.
WHY?:
If anyone has ever wanted to have fun without worrying about the law & really see what your car can do, this is the event for you. Come on out & have fun. Bring a friend to see who really is the better driver.
Word of advice, don't get caugt up in your "setup". It's more about learing to drive your car well than how many mods you have. The more seat time you have on the track, the better your times will get.
WHAT IS IT LIKE?:
Here is a pic of the track. Imagine the gazillion track options. Also a couple videos for you to enjoy.
For those that have come out before, the popular opinion was the first configuration was a little short, so this time I will add more length to it.

WHAT TO BRING:
Need your own helmet. DOT approved. It can be a full face motorcycle helmet (no harley skull cap type).
You will also need closed toe shoes.
I will be updating this quickly. There are going to be some exciting changes. Online Pre-registration & payment will be required. I will post registration form link soon. If you want to get your spot, just paypal me the $80 at jason.andrews@activant.com. If you want to run your *** off or do a 2 driver you can buy into a second run group for the extra $60. Extra driver would also owe the $20 entry fee.
Registration link should be up soon. Stay tuned!

and charging people $20 a head for spectating is ridiculous.

i do it mainly for the results, so track time doesnt really do it for me. My commute is my track time ha.
But i could see this $80 as a stepping stone up to a track day, since ive never done one and dont know if my car is set up for speed.

Yeah, well it depends on how much track time you're getting or how long the runs are. Auto-x is fun but WAY too expensive, 35 dollars for 3 mins? and that's if you're lucky. That's like 11 dollars a minute. Track is like 160 for 3 20 min session so thats like 2.6 dollars a minute. I'll have to decide if it's worth the seat time for this one.

uh, Try $159 for a NASA day at Infineon (Sep 23rd), and thats four 20 minute sessions. And Infineon is about as close to the bay area as you can get.
ThunderHill is $159 a day also, but that is a couple hours north.
Laguna Seca is the spendy one at $329 for just one day, but track days there are less common that the other two (but it does have seven 20 minute session instead of four).

It's a blast guys. THe cost is pretty good for the time you get. parking lot of cones is $30 for 3-4 runs. This is $80 for 8-12 runs & Lunch. The $20 charge is by the track for any event. I can't change that. It does include lunch though. I like the smaller venue as well. I can't do a lot with cones, I get lost. The altamont is much easier to follow. Either way, hope a few of you would give it a try. I run with the NASA events as well & I have a great time at both. I also love beating my buddies time around the track & NASA HPDE isn't good for that with no timer & tons of traffic, but it is fun in it's own way. The answer=do both. I will be at Laguna on Oct 1st.

Good info... please put this up in the original post as it's critical.
I'm guessing that a run through a course would be on the order of about 2 minutes or so?
8-12 x 2 min is a lot more driving than 3-4 x 1 min in a typical autox.
EDIT: uh... i saw the videos... those courses are < 1 min. Hmmmmm....

so let's say you get 10 minutes of seat time, 8 dollars a minute is ok considering it's kind of a track. You really should make the course longer, but by doing so, we'll get less runs since only one car can go at a time. Thats why track's dollar/time ratio is much cheaper. But having your car in a very safe environment with very little walls or other cars is worth the piece of mind for some people. For those contemplating going, atleast give it a try before you decide to never do it. It's 80 dollars and I'm sure you can do it once and see if you like it.
side note. NASA is pretty cheap compared to most clubs that run track days. I've seen track days for 225 for one day but for the amount of seat time you get it's worth it.
