To my understanding, the DMV no longer allows a p.o. box to count for as an actual place of residence. You would need to put your actual residential address for smog.

They go off of what your license says. Your residence, a PO box cannot be a residence, and there is a law about falsification of where you live on your license as well.

INSERT: Sage Advise To Heed, it'll carry you further in life.

*IT HAS TO BE A RESIDENCE AND YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOU LIVE THERE AT THEIR DISCRETION*

They also do still randomly verify you are "in residence". I could have done this with our new ride but decided against it because since the new job I spend less time up there. I literally used to spend 2-3 days out of my week in another county which satisfied the law.

My Parent's neighbors tried to play this game, guess what? THEY GOT CAUGHT. They let papers pile up in the driveway, let the weeds get 3-1/2' tall, and yet have no service bills to support the game they tried to play. We literally have only seen them 1 time in 5 years of their having bought and built upon that property. It's stupid of them because the Sheriff lives two blocks over and 2 other LEO's and a County Office person are just a block away.

Also realize it's all changing soon enough. I actually got "lottery picked" to Smog my old ride but I had already sold it and they'd Smogged it.

The old game of using Alpine and Calaveras Counties, etc is over with. Counties are behind the support too because all they get is a small percentage of your registration fees while you spend your regular monies elsewhere hurting those counties income. I've seen local gas stations almost go under just because of a highway bypass and people not spending the same in town. Add that to the already removed local spending because of the economy and places tank.

Is that something you can sleep at night with? Knowing you're basically raping a County that relies on residents and tourism as it's primary support all so you can drive your hawtness?

Come On!!

Man up, make your stuff pass, Smog and Register it locally, and be proud to do the right thing. If you want to play otherwise you damned well better be supporting that county you're sleeping with because it's an unfair burden on them.

Same goes for the people and companies (like Rental Cars) who are playing the new game of using Nevada and Arizona registration. 30 days in the state and you have to re-register.

If you are going to register "Off County" whatever, just be sure you actually do visit up there and spend at least 20-35% of your annual income and discretionary funds to support that county. If you're going to claim "Local" try to act like one and "Keep it Local".

Funny, that didn't quite make it into The Constitution.

*Note I never said I agree wholly with the draconian procedures our lovely state is using either. I just see these sort of threads being absolute flame bait and making i-club a target. I'm waiting for the thread to disappear as we type.

Sort of like the logic that follows?

Anyone old enough is laughing right now because we all know the second things went "legit" all of a sudden the market fell out. I goto Pleasanton, Greer, etc and they're Ghost-Towns for the most part.
