I didn't want to be the first one....
I HATED that course.... typical miata crap....nuf said
I got so pissed off on my third run. I had slowed down alot on my third run and got the first slalom and tight section almost perfect, good enough to carry speed through the back section; which I did. got through the first 2 boxes fine, but the minute I touched the brakes for the third, I snapped oversteered from the complete lack of traction... I had so little traction and I was so
that I clutch dumped as I was still rolling backwards
and I felt all 4 wheels break loose and power slide to the left a bit as I accelerated to get going in the right direction. I swear the tires broke loose before the clutch finished engaging... Anyhow I was so mad that as I accelerated away I handbraked the left hander (did a perfect drift BTW
) and then took it easy for the rest of the course.
Fricken sucks too, that run felt great until I spun... My only conseleation was noticing that the 7th and 8th run group were having lots of traction problems too.

Anyhow I didn't mind the course so much. I've noticed that I always seem to drive my best on tight courses even if they aren't as fun as something with big sweepers.
BTW, thanks for the ride... I owe ya something (although I doubt a ride in my car would be that exciting... I'll figure something out though). My heart is still pounding from driving your car. I thought it was very well behaved and I think you've nailed the right combo for spring rates with the WRX. I haven't been that giddy about driving a car since my very first autocross (I was actually shaking after my first run).
Cheers, Joe

I'm running 8 kg/mm F and 6 kg/mm rear. Rob is running 7 kg/mm F and 8 kg/mm rear. Not sure what Rob's alignment settings are, but mine are as follows :
Front : 0 toe, -2.0° Camber, +3.3° Caster
Rear : 0 toe, -0.5° Camber
I also have the bars at 22mm F and 22mm R.
Keep in mind that I have the Wagon (which is 80 lbs heavier, almost all over the rear wheels) and the suspension geometry isn't the same, so the same combo on both cars most likely WON'T perform the same.
The combo on my car is pretty neutral for most courses, although I think that 24mm rear woulda helped yesterday in getting the car to rotate better.
Myself : felt like the car just kept trying to push too much yesterday. All three runs were pretty consistent time-wise (between 55.5 and 55.8), but coulda definitely been faster
BTW Chris, agree on that course. A couple of those U-turns were probably NOT SFR-SCCA legal (minimum INSIDE radius of 40 ft). As bad as it was in the WRX, I would have had to COMPLETELY throttle-steer them in the Impala

So Lorry, will you be joining us in STX this season or for Slush? The next autox is in 3 weeks, plenty of time us to install some coilovers in your car. Since there's only been 4 events you'll get to drop those by the end of the summer series so you can still be competitive. Of course if you come over that means Tim will follow closly behind instead of waiting until the slush series (Tim still thinks that he's not leaving the stock category but estimate he'll join us for slush. hahahaha).

nope i wasn't there.
i'm not going to be running my car 'til i get a proper tune... shiv's dyno showed that i was runnig waaaaaaaaaaay too rich --- which is the reason for the bogging down coming out of corners.
hopefuly 'i'll make it out to the nexxt one.

I really didn't like that course. I had a lot of problems with understeer. I really needed a bigger sway bar for that course. I got beat by the 2 civics in Novice class. I couldn't figure out why they did so well and I was doing so bad. Then Chris posted saying "typical miata crap" which leads me to see why the civics did so well. I bested a 57.5. That was on the second run, so I played around on the third run trying to leave it in 1st all the way around the course. It didn't help. I actually got slower. So lesson learned. Hopefully the course at Candlestick on the 23rd will be a good one.

BTW, I saw on the SFR SCCA web site that Kevin Vanderbeek's rims got stolen from the parking lot (new 350Z). If anyone saw anything suspicious, here is a link to the info:

I'm sure he'd appreciate any help or info.

Yep, forgot to mention that. Kevin came by, quite upset (can't say I blame him!) while I was working trailer during 8th rungroup.
This is not the first time this has happened, Don Lew (DSP 80's Supra driver) had a set stolen (nice Forgeline wheels, about $3K value) in Stockton 4 years ago.
Not sure why you'd put DUBS on a 350Z (heck, I think they look wierd on the Impala, and TONS of those cars are out there with them!) but then.....to each their own
Guess I'll keep DRIVING to the event on the Azenis!
