Niners still may not move........
This just in from KCBS.com
Senator Feinstein Forces More Talks Between Forty-Niners and City
San Francisco, Calif. (KCBS) -- The Forty-Niners' plans to leave San Francisco is not a done deal. Senator Dianne Feinstein is now involved in the talks to prevent the team's purported move to Santa Clara County.
KCBS reporter Janice Wright says the U.S. senator called San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and the Forty-Niner's John York into her office today to talk things over and by all accounts it went well and more talks are planned.
The door it seems is not closed.
In the meantime, San Francisco Assemblyman Mark Leno is fighting his fight by taking the tact of those who have suggested this whole flak is a move by the professional football team "as we're prepared to leave unless you sweeten the pot."
Leno is firing back with a plan to introduce legislation that would prohibit a sports franchise from using San Francisco's name if it was not actually playing in the city. "If you are a franchise and want to make use of the name, don't think you automatically will be able to keep it as you move on," Leno said.
KCBS reporter Matt Bigler spoke with Santa Clara City Councilman Pat Kolstad. "Well I will be certainly looking forward to exactly to seeing what they submit, what the deal is so the city council can study it and proceed for there," said councilman Kolstad. He says he still has some big questions about how the team will pay for a new professional football stadium without having to impose new taxes or having to dip into the city's general fund.
Larry Stone, the Santa Clara County assessor and a sports booster in San Jose said naming rights are a big issue. "Naming rights can bring in as much as a $100-million dollars to a project, that combined with loans from the NFL can finance a substantial portion of construction in the deal but it's certainly not all of it," Stone said.
But if the talks do not bear fruit, what will happen to the Olympic bid Mayor Newsom had been working on?
"I think the general feeling is that we have lost that bid," said San Francisco Supervisor Tom Ammiano.

it'd be nice to see Sen. Feinstein work on an Iraq plan, the trade deficit, or social security reform.
and since when does the senator ONLY represent the city of San Francisco. There are some 2 million people living in Santa Clara county...that's about 2x the population of the city. isn't she supposed to represent us as well?
