The Almaden Quicksilver Mines were used to mine cininbar (spelling) back in the day. Some parts of the hills are contaminated with toxins but its only isolated in one spot; a spot in which you dont hike on so there isnt a huge threat at all. The CCC (civilian Corps) was volunteering up there in the 70s. There are plaques in various locations that show what each spot looked like in their prime. There is a cemetary, lots of houses, a conveyor belt, a powder house for storing dynamite, and a big rotary furnace. I never seen mountain lions (said from a diff post, nor had probs with any other poisons/contaminants). Certain parts of the trails give you good views of the 101 Highway looking towards Morgan HIll, as well as a view of the entire bay area Valley. Hicks road has some good turns. Mount Diablo is also an excellent place to get an outstanding 360 panoramic view of the entire bay area from Gilroy in the south, SF in the west, Oakland in the north and Stockton to the east. Plus there are lots of trails in which one can hike on up there as well and a lot of near fossils and dinosaur bones @ the visitor center at the top.

Oh ya, and i have never once seen a police car on those roads, but then again i could just be lucky =)

Never been to the top of Uhmanum due to the gate with the dozens of pad locks on them.
Damn it John, I hope that was a type-o and not a Freudian slip
Because if anyone thinks they are going to be exploring this Mike shaft
They have another thing coming! I don't bite off fingers, I rip off arms and beat their owners over the head with the bloody stumps!

Other than that, I may be down to roll.

lol yes that was a big typ-o. i meant to say mine shaft :E its def a cool place if u like the outdoors/scenery/historical shiz. there are 3 parking locations for the quicksilver mines. the best of them is the top one; at the top of hicks road. the other lots just have nothing but HUUUGE up and down hills and no cool buildings to see. the summit parking spot is already at the top so u dont have to do the climbing. there is a good 5-6 mile loop that i take that enables you to see 95% of the ruining buildings and views

Hahahaha...good to know!
That place looks sick!
I'm down for whenever, just give me a heads up so I don't go and get drunk first! I'll also try to drag Dave "hitMan912" up with me...that's if he isn't drunk too!

I'm interested, but not really into getting arrested for something like this.. anyone been up there recently and know how tight people up there are?

We could also check out Mount Madonna. See the albino deer (yes really) and the mansion ruins up there
I'm also kinda thinking about a Water Temple (awesome photos) -> Pioneer Saloon -> Applejacks run up HWY 84

I have been to Mt. Madonna frequently but have never seen mansion ruins. sounds like another plausable location.
