:newbie: to the Bay area.
Hello everyone. I'm new to i-club and to the Bay area. I got referred here after a post I made on Nasioc. Well I just got a job offer to work in Livermore and I need some advice on a place to live.

+1 on the commute in the area sucking big time...the livermore/dublin area gets more sun, higher temps than the areas closer to the bay (oakland, hayward, castro valley) if you aren't good in hotter weather...
Liver/dublin are relatively low crime areas, good for families, outlet strip mall kind of places..good place to live/work when you think about the rest of the places in the bay area
There's a lot of choices to live out here, so it would be easier to say if you gave more info...family situation (house or apartment, school districts if you have kids etc) hobbies, big city vs. Suburbia living haha

I'm single. I'm looking for a reasonably affordable area. I know California can be expensive. 25 mile commute to Livermore is not bad, I'm used to traffic as long as it's not L.A. rush hour traffic. I don't care too much about the hot. I'm mostly a suburban type that likes to hangout in the city to eat out in the evenings/weekend. I used to live in San Diego for a year and I really liked that experience but I know there is a difference between North Cal
and SoCal

Livermore and Dublin are nice. If you are looking to save a little money and don't mind the traffic, Tracy is nice. There are other roads that take you from Tracy to Livermore without having to take the freeway. I commute to San Jose and I don't touch 580 in the mornings. Weather is about the same except that Livermore/Dublin area tends to cool off more at night but the highs are about the same.

If you're a Socal'r Livermore is a lot like Temecula. Low crime, high vacancy, not a ton to do, Suburban tract-homes... but nice.
You can catch BART into SF if you desire nightlife.
Just stay the hell out of (most of) Oakland, Hayward, Union City and especially Richmond. All are pretty much ghetto war-zones.

You want Dublin
It's right at the 580/680 interchange and makes getting to SF and SJ much easier.
Tracy is a lot farther out than it seems

It's really not. And its the difference of close to $500 for an apartment. It takes a little less than that 30 minutes to get to Livermore/Pleasanton/Dublin area.
