new tires...

I need some. I checked out the snow tire thread on nasioc and searched around here but I can't find suggestions for what I am looking for.

I have a 07 limited wagon. The stock tires are worn out after fewer than 20k miles. Driving in the rain yesterday the steering felt twitchy and generally all over the place.

What I am looking for is a new set of all seasons. I say all seasons over summer tires as I plan on a couple trips to tahoe a year. I'd love better rain tracking, snow traction, and a little more longevity would be nice.

Between these tires, what is the best (or if I'm missing an obvious one, please suggest):

1. Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position
2. Continental ContiExtremeContact
3. Kumho Ecsta ASX
4. Yokohama AVID W4S

Also, what is the cheapest option for getting these things bought and mounted? Do you all go the tire rack --> installer route or just by from around here. The difference seemed to be about $50 after everything was said and done. Are there shops close to SF that can get it done for cheaper?

Thanks,

Geoff

A maximum performance summer tire? They will be no use in Tahoe.

A Pirelli Pzero Nero will be a lot better, plus they are awesome in the rain.

i went cheap and my "winter" tires are kumho asx's... my dunlop direzza z1 star specs actually have better ride quality. the kumho's are noisy and rock hard. if you're going to live with them as your only tire, i'd go for the conti's or the bs's.

and to the guy who recommended azenis. did you even read his post?!?!

I've got some 225/45/17 Sumitomo HRTZ III's for sale..They have 300 miles on them only. I bought new rims that come with tires, so I will be selling them. I'm thinking $375 for all (4).

I just got Goodyear GT's (All seasons). I have been very impressed with them thus far, and I've taken a trip to tahoe and been driving in this crazy rain. IMO, The wet traction is crazy good.

Good luck

i rocked the pzero neros before... noisy tires imo. i killed thru them in a year.

the conti-extremes are too soft for my taste but they were pretty cheap so no complaints.

rocking the kumho asx's rite now... no complaints... esp for the price!

I've got some re960as and I love them! they ride nice in the snow and rain. They got good reviews for AS tires and the price was good.

Dang, what tires do you normally run? Compared to "noisy" tires like S-03s, the PZeros are dang quiet. Also, how many miles were you driving in that year? I easily put over 25k on them, and they only went because of bad camber and toe wear (stupid me, there was 6/32" left on the outside).

I love the PZeros, and would take them any day over the Bridgestone RE960 AS.

i hate on the pzero's cuz they were the only tires that i managed to lose grip on in tahoe. i consider my driving habits consistent, so i dont think i drove any differently. they also tend to grab the groovings on the road and get really noisy there (i'm referring to hwy 85 in the south bay) and i feel like i'm fighting my car the whole time on the road. and considering they only lasted me 20k miles, i paid $900 for the whole set mounted and insurance thru america's tire co.

for reference, the contis ran me $600 w/ the insurance from america's tire co. and lasted me about 30k miles.

and the kumho asx's ran me $450 installed thru tirerack/pacific tires.
