Oh man, that's over by the old "dragstrip".

They are building a ton of new apartments all over that area currently. Some just opened. They aren't cheap, but they are brand new and you would be really close to your work. The apartments are on a street called Zanker with a cross street of River Oaks. And there are a ton of apartments all along River Oaks Parkway. You would definitely be within 15 minutes of your work around there.

For hiking, biking and what now, Fremont has a nice area around Ohlone college and San Jose has Alum Rock Park which I hear is nice for that stuff.

If you're north of san jose I'd look for a house in fremont. Apartments suck.

NICEEE! Theres an indoor rock climbing gym in downtown San Jose that has the boulder rock climbing area, the tall climbing columns and a little weight lifting gym area. Theres also a place called City Beach in Fremont which isn't too bad either. Hiking wise, big basin is nice for a cooler(colder) foresty feel. Mission peak is a VERY popular hike with an amazing view. Almost everyone in the bay knows what it is. And for biking, well it depends what kind of biking. There is a little time trial track at hellyer park, plenty of parks for bmx, and bike parties for everyone, and those things get huge and almost obnoxious lol. Plenty of lakes in the area to hike at as well

Awesome, also I forgot to mention I'm an avid snowboarder too. I've been looking at the resorts in Tahoe, but what mountains do you prefer? I also really like the fact ya'll have buses that can take you out there.

theres a TON. I like to go check like boreal or donnor ski ranch but they are closer to the bottom of the list. I hear Squaw valley and kirkwood are AMAZING. I've been to bear valley as well because its not too far, and really like the Lunch Run they have there because its like a good 30-45 minute run and ends right back at a bus stop that takes you back to the mountain. But it really has to be dropping snow and you definitely don't want to go alone. We had some sketchy experiences on that run before we finally got our route down, actually went through some peoples yards on our boards LOL

Some people on here throw caravans together to take trips up to the snow to snowboard and play in the snow with our cars as well.

Honestly... if you're new and you're trying to get to know folks in the baic then I recommend these two things....

Number 2 is the trip I do. I do a trip to my cabin every year for iclub guys. At this point it's a super tight bunch of guys and we right, party and chill a certain way. Been doing it for I think 8 years now. Essentially it's 5-9 guys. We buy a keg. A bunch of beer. We snowboard, drink, eat and play video games for 4 days. Goes a little something like this... mash up. Tune the boards up and have a few beers. Ride. Eat. Drink. Tune. Play. Eat. Snowboard. drink. eat. drink. tune. drink. play. etc.

It's a good damn time.

Sugar Bowl
Alpine.


That's my personal order of preference. But my home mountain is Bear Valley. It's small. It's close (no 88/50 to deal with). It gets solid snow fall. It's small. It's got killer riding if you know where to go. I have a house there. I have a season pass. It's the only way I can afford to ride on the regular. I go to tahoe at most 1-2 times a season and honestly I don't think I've been to tahoe in 2 years.

yeah hes right about the gang shootings recently, but its not bad. I've lived here for 21 years as well, Dad has lived in the same house I'm in since birth. It's not bad. It's better to not live off king or story or alum rock as far as robbery goes but as far as violence, you dont gotta deal with that unless you look gang affiliated, wear mostly red or blue, some people are just WAYYY overly cautious. But as of recently, subies have been getting messed up in sunnyvale and thats supposed to be the "nicer" area. LOL. East side isnt bad. I'm at capitol expressway and aborn, couple blocks from king road and I've never had a problem. Only had an ipod stolen ONE time and that was ebcause I left my door unlocked . Dont listen to that nonsense

Depends where you live. I am in the dead center of it on king and story rd. Avoid this area if you can. North san jose and downtown are nice so are some areas in south sj.

While I have no suggestions on where to live/buy/whatever seeing as I'm about to hit 4-0 and have a kid and a house payment let me at least suggest you check out SportsBasement off of Lawrence Expressway since you are into the outdoorsy stuff.

I rarely escape the place without spending $40-$100 a visit.

I personally enjoy south Lake Tahoe. There are some cheap options out there if you're looking for like a motel or inn. Heavenly is expensive and gets really busy, but it's a huge resort with a lot of terrain. Also, the Nevada border is right next to Heavenly, so you can hit up Harrah's or other casinos in the area to gamble and what not if you're into that kind of stuff.

as far as tahoe, tahoe is tahoe. its gorgeous, open, fresh, WHITEEE. When i was still living with my parents, we would always go to squaw valley. and northstar. i personally preferred squaw for their epic night runs. Last time i was at northstar was when i used to downhill MTB and they were building the Ritz Carlton right in the heart of the resort. That another thing, Im not sure how the resorts are on the East Coast, but most of the resorts at tahoe are open during the wnter for snow and open during the summer to ride which as im sure u know is ideal for u. USED to be ideal for me, till i gave up riding. but thats my own fault

South/West San Jose, Campbell, and willow glen are nice areas and you can get to downtown SJ in 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Or if you want to be a little more economical and/or don't mind public transportation, we do have a lightrail system. look up the VTA website (www.vta.org) for stations near your home/work.

I'm in South San Jose. Good place to live. Cheap-ish places to rent considering you're not too far from everything.

Downtown SJ, unless you like gettin' all up in da' club, is pretty weak if you ask me. Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino are all nice. Santa Clara, depending on how far north you go, tends to be really nice and really quiet.
