I remember reading rumors that the WRX and STi are going to be separated from the Impreza line. Sorta like how the Outback is now it's own line when it used to be a Legacy trim level. I think that is what Anthony is trying to say.
Now Subaru will have a true econobox as opposed to a watered down sportster.

The USA finally has a naturally-aspirated 2.0L Boxer engine, in the form of the FB20.
Honestly, the side profile is bad, but the front-end isn't too bad. And the rear-end is slightly better looking than the previous generation.
What I don't get is that the base Impreza is still going to use a 5-speed manual with "revised ratios". I would have thought they would move it on to a 6-speed that the 2010+ Legacys and Outbacks have.

Sacrifices had to be made to get to 36 MPG...

By the way, were there are "teaser" shots of the bugeye model?
I think the 36mpg on a AWD car is great. Hopefully with strong marketing, this will translate to higher sales volume. Losing the projectors hint cost-cutting to me though. The few interior shots that I saw, it seems like hard plastics are still of abundance too.
I'm still disappointed they couldn't keep true to the concept shown at the LA Auto Show. Oh well....

Personally, I think that WRXs and STis are great to drive and incredible value for money. However, I'm never going to look at one as a masterpiece of styling. They have all been scooped up versions of fairly bland base cars.
The new car will probably look ok once they have stuck some scoops, flared arches, spoilers etc. on them.

I miss how the Impreza had it's own smaller engine. Thankfully, Subaru is bringing that trait back. The FB20 is Impreza-specific (and of course, FT-86/FR-S), the FB25 is in the Forester (and will likely later on find its way into the Legacy and Outback), while the EZ36 will be Tribeca's engine (of course, one can get a Legacy/Outback with the EZ as well).
Nice to add a little variety of engines for each car.
