I'm impressed that Subaru was able to increase fuel economy and drop 160lbs from the car, but why is it SO UGLY?!

the current impreza model has been the same since 2008 but the 2010+ wrx and sti has changed... so im not sure what you mean by it will be based off the current impreza..

^ That would be until 2011, but even the 2011 WRX and STI share some styling cues with the base Impreza, including the 2008-2010 STI. When Subaru comes out with the WRX and STI, the new Impreza's style, at least part of it, will carry over to the new WRX and STI. They're going to have an interesting base to work with, to say the least.

Now Subaru will have a true econobox as opposed to a watered down sportster.
