Nothing personal, but GD chasis are going to be worth squat in the next 5-10 years. People aren't going to pay more money for a used WRX with an oudated chasis and basement option interior when the new models are going to cost about the same as they've been for the past years. To top it off, there are plenty of other respectable sport compacts on the market that are as apealing as a used (probably abused) WRX. The GD body will not be a collector's car just because you think the new body is ugly.
Only Suby fanboys who are pissed the new Impreza doesn't look like a boy-racer any more think the 08 design is fugly. The rest of the world is going to find the new model much more appealing, especially with the new interior. The new design is much more acceptable for the world market and sales will demonstrate that. A manufacturer's victory in the WRC would cement the new chasis capability. Subaru made a smart move ditching the abrasive body style of the GD.
Don't forget that just 7 years ago America though Subaru owners were all a bunch of granola cruntching hippies and lesbians. And now the Suby bandwagonners who bought their precious WRX are all crying that Subaru didn't personal consult them on the 08 concept. Subaru made an improved Impreza and doesn't need the owners of older goofy looking WRXs complaining about the new goofy looking Impreza.[RANT]

The corolla isn't sold because it's a beautiful car, it's sold because it's reliable, it's 14k, and it has the Toyota brand name on it.

Good points, but the main one that you failed to address is the fact that no one at all likes change. Since i purchased my subaru for the more "racey" look, a lot of enthusiasts who share that idea of the car are truely disappointed. It feels like they are moving more towards a "what everyone wants" theme, which is also known as selling out. I enjoyed the older WRXs because of thier unique appearance. As for handling and interior, what is better is always subjective. Personally i dont like the new chasis that much, but i dont think its horrible. I just believe they could have used a more .... "Original" design.

I was never under the impression the WRX was intended as an everyday yuppie car. It has always had a niche market....so I think many are dissapointed that Subaru is selling out. IF we wanted a car that looks like a Saab or _____, then we would probably buy a Saab or _____!! The Impreza is NOT the only model Subaru makes last I checked....
I, for one, will never drive something so FUGLY. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right? My next car (new or rebuilt ground up) will have that thing that cars dont have today....what was it called? Oh ya, STYLE.

function>form..just because the outside might look different doesnt mean jack.. its heart is in the right place and its still the same....its been pretty much the same sad ol song everytime a new redesign ( slight or major) comes out. right now everyone is "OMG", "FUGLY", "i wont drive that", "blah blah blah" etc etc... bottom line is, the new impreza will still sell as it always has.. and the more we see it, the more we will begin to like it... just like with any and every other redesign that has ever come out
