I need someone to take the math placement test for me at a community college asap. This individual must be at least at statistics level, and willing to take a short test upon meeting(10 questions or so) to prove that you are the right candidate for the task
Physical Requirement: female, dark dark, light eyes, Caucasian

pay is negotiable
So I wonder how this person plans on getting through the courses if she can't do the work? Being placed highly in the test, but then failing the class - wouldn't that suck? Or will this lead to that same person doing the course for her, and her getting the credit??

Cheating on a placement test? What the hell? That's the stupidest idea ever! Like Roo said, what the hell are you going to do when you can't do the work in the class?

That requires abstract thinking, which is no longer taught in the schools.

Obviously I understand the superficial stupidity of this, just like everyone else does, but I can also see where she is coming from. After all, is this really so different from the high school kid that pads his or her college applications so that he or she can get in to a college that normally accepts much higher-caliber students? If she's planning on buckling down and working hard good for her... this is still pretty lame though.

Well to play the devil's advocate; when I started going back to school I hadn't had math in 8 years, and I needed intermediate algebra level placement to take chemistry/bio. I found a loophole, if you test for wave above your level, they'll put you in the next lowest (tested for calc and did crappy, so they put me in trig).

The only flaw in your theory is that she's looking for someone who can PASS the test - and get into the higher level classes. I can understand if you take the higher level placement and fail, you'll be placed in the next level down. She could take the test herself (perhaps), and qualify to do just what you did.

I never said that it was my theory (and it would be a hypothesis, not a theory because there is no basis of a hypothesis and a hypothesis is an untested guess), but she obviously did not understand the system the same way...

I was just playing the devil's advocate in saying and showing an example that there are reasons people do such things.

The MPT is a bull **** test anyway. I don't know why she's asking for a person with a statistics background. There shouldn't be anything like that on the test. All the MPT does is determine whether you need remedial coursework or not. It doesn't place you in "advanced" classes. It just determines regular math or you suck math.

Not sure what junior/community college you've been to, but all the ones I know of, and the one I attended, had various available Math Placement Tests. There are tests for arithmetic and pre-algebra skills for those who don't remember ****, a test to determine if you remember enough basic math to enter first year algebra, a test to see if you remember enough algebra and geometry to enter into intermediate college algebra, and a pre-calculus test to determine if you are a smarty-pants and get to pass Go and collect $500, going straight into 1st semester college calculus courses, skipping trig and pre-calc courses.
