Need some input

Hey everyone,

My boss has a 2000 VW Golf and is having an issue. When the car sits out in the sun and gets hot, it won't start, no click or anything. If you sit in the car with the keys in accessory mode so the fan is blowing and have the hood popped and wait about 10 minutes, the car starts right up. What the HELL is the problem? The car has 100k on it and he did the timing belt service not too long ago. The problem was happening before he did the timing belt as well.

What about the starter solenoid? Is that heat sensitive? If its too hot, will it not start?

Any day that the car isn't hot, it starts just fine.

Thanks guys/gals

Maybe check the starter relay if it has one?

I had a similar problem on my old Integra and it turned out to be the alarm system. Same symptoms.

When it doesnt start, you need to check power on the starter solenoid while trying to crank the car. Narrows it down a bit. A thermostat will not cause the car to not crank.

This happens with old cars all the time. Get hot and don't want to start again. I'd start with the solenoid then the starter. One or both should fix it.

I told my boss all of the things you guys said then he took it in to the dealership and told them everything and ran some testing, apparently it was just a weak battery... Lol Thanks for the responses though
