Need to replace Motor Mounts

The engine on my 03 wrx is starting to shake like shakira on stage causing the knock sensor to pull timing. Getting a set of mounts (motor, pitch, trans) early this week. Anyone have any recommendations of shops in the Benicia/Fairfield area? And generally how much I'd be looking to pay to have someone swap out the motor mounts? I plan on doing the trans myself, but I've heard too much about how difficult the rear bolts are on the engine mount to want to do it myself.

EQ Tuning could probably do it. It would also be a good idea to have them check to see if your motor mount induced knock is not real knock just to be safe.

Is this an actual issue with old motor mounts? My engine feels like it's shaking a lot more lately (I have a 140k miles, btw), and last week I did get a quick flashing CEL while taking off relatively hard from a stop (went away after a few seconds).

Well they haven't disintegrated causing the engine to only be mounted to the car via the transmission... But they certainly look old and on start and stop of the engine really moves. I can only imagine that translates into a fair amount of engine movement under load. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvYr-t-3pe8

Any idea what they'd charge though?

Book time is 1.1hrs to replace both motor mounts.

But I can't see anything wrong watching your video.

Guess I'll go into some of the back story then. Car is stock aside from a catless uppipe, I do remember that when it was installed, one of the bolts for the turbo's heat shield got lost, so the lower bolt on the passenger side is no longer there. I was running the Cobb OTS Stage 1 ACN tune and generally getting good results. DAM was sitting at ~13-15. I had noticed that the car was pulling timing at ~.6 load at ~2k rpm (my usual 1st gear starting rpm) so I spent some time on the freeway around that rpm at partial throttle trying to see if there was actually an issue. The pulled timing started to go away so I decided to do a bit of a 4th gear pull to give the car some time at high load and ~3-4k5rpm. Well apparently that really pissed the car off. I heard a momentary noise that kind of sounded like an exhaust leak/spurt from the drivers side and came off the throttle. Checked my DAM and it was 1.

As you can see in the video (that was taken a few days after the pull) there aren't any odd engine noises (rod knock etc) and the car otherwise pulls nice and smooth. I recently replaced the spark plugs with some denso iridium's, replaced the air filter with an K&N panel filter, replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned my MAF sensor. The car seems to run great when driving to and from work. It's only under hard load (3rd gear pulls, etc) that I sometimes hear that hiss noise coming from the drivers side. I was talking to one of my buddies about the noise and he immediately said it was more than likely the motor mount.

Being that the car is 7 years old at this point with 97,000 miles it sounded like a likely cause. I do also notice that when I jump off the throttle I'll feel some weight transfer back and forth a few times, and I'll feel some back and forth movement in the shifter.

Would appreciate all the advice I can get. As much as I'd love to do an ej207 v8 swap money is a rather big issue right now.

Doesn't look like anything is wrong, although having never seen what an revved engine looks like with broken motor mounts, I don't know if that helps. I don't know that you would really see anything the motor isn't really transmitting any torque?

At any rate, cost will be on a per hour basis. Probably can't be more than an hour to change mounts...but from your description it would be a good idea to have the car looked over...so you are probably looking at a couple hundred for some piece of mind.
