Get in touch with IAperformance. They can get you a new box fully assembled with an RA gearset for way less than you can rebuild one for. Trust me I've tried to find it cheaper. Your talking a difference of $700.

< has 90k on stock tranny and no problems

id agree though on the ra gearset and if you wanted to splurge, full sti 6 speed and supporting stuff would be the way to go

Why go to Thailand? You can go to SF and pay like $50 for one.

Also as I recall I remember when I just regularly down shifted to show my friend my i believe i heard my tranny make a loud clunk noise. so i think thats when somthing broke.
i never rev match my downshifts, i just let go of the clutch REALLY slow so it matches by itself, never have had any problems. knock on wood. but i also almost never drive hard.

Sorry about your tranny. What kind of mods do you have on that thing???

My02 wrx has 85,XXX on it still on the OE tranny. About 10,XXX ago i put in an STi shortblock and went stage 2. Tranny is still holding, but i do feel it starting to die. I'm going for the STi 6mt so i dont have to worry about the tranny anymore, i suggest the same.

Save up for it, or go into debt with credit, it will be worth it if you plan on keeping the car.

i find that the 1 to 2 shift is kind of trick in that it is very easy to shift faster than the engine. (ie the revs haven't dropped low enough by the time you are ready to engage the clutch in 2nd) i find that i have do say "wait" in my head or do some trick to make myself wait a bit for the revs to drop.. even if i shift from 1st to 2nd at the redline it is possible to it without the clunk of the rear diff banging against the car, or without and shuddering associated with an incorrect rev match (i have group N engine and trans mounts so it is very obvious when the revs are matched incorrectly)

is your car making more than 250 wtq? if you are making big power then i think the trans is just not designed for that power, and you can't use a stock trans anymore. if you are making closer to stock torque i think it is very worthwhile to take a hard and honest look at your driving technique

I've put 105k miles on my 04 wrx with a bit of beating. Tuned for 75k of those miles on the stock turbo @18psi.

There is likely something wrong with the way you drive your car if this is tranny #2 you've blown.

OP,

do you drag?
does it clunk or jerk at all when you shift?
what kind of tranny related bushings have you replaced with aftermarket ones?
