although some may call it "overkill", I dont see how.....its not about the capability of the harsh conditions the battery can withstand......its plain and simply about better quality.....besides, to all those that said, its a waste, cuz its ONLY for a daily driver.....where do you think the power for your car comes from? Dont you want reliable, clean, consistant power for your electrical system? which will make your car run smoother....same reason alot of people dont put crappy gas or spark plugs in their engine. It DOES make a difference.
just my opinion though, I know my car will have an Optima when the stock battery dies.

Why would you try to skimp on 50 bucks after forking out near $25gs on a WRX?
Spend the extra dough and pimp your ride. The Group 35 fits like a glove.

I'd have to agree with the masses here. Optima Red top. Had one in my Exploder and was great. You can play the stereo forever and still have enough amps to turn it over. Never leaked. No cold weather starting issues. BTW they aren't any heavier than a standard battery. WTF : rolleyes

Why not a braile lightweight battery??......Its kinda nice, not only do you replace a bad part, but also upgrade the preformance of your car.
It costs about $120-150, takes a good 20-22#'s off the car and looks trick....i think its rated @ 700CCA also.....just a thought.

i just got my optima battery from remybattery.com the sales guy matt was helpful and i got my battery within a couple days.. i had no problems hooking it up since i got the group 35 size..
i chose optima since they are rated at least 5 years i think.. also they are pure maintinance-free and should not leak ever. plus i got the yellow top since i have an audio system that i leave on while the car is off while i take a nap between classes
btw anyone know where to throw away old car batteries? does pepboys/autozone/kragen accept them for free?

Nice try, but I'm not sure why you added all that nonsense ^^^^^. I never claimed Interstates or Die Hards were lighter than STOCK batteries. :rolleyes
On the other hand, maybe you should spend less time hunting for batteries and look into getting Hooked on Phonics instead or treated for premature memory loss! vvvvvvvv

p.s. for the rational folk in the house, I never based my initial recommendations for Interstates & Die Hards over Optimas based on weight. To reiterate, IMO, Optimas aren't worth the extra $$$ unless your ride needs the extra juice for electronics or is used in conditions out of the "norm"--long periods of unuse, harsh climates, motorsports activities, etc. For daily driven WRX in the Bay Area, an Interstate or Die Hard will be a more than adequate replacement battery.

Pay an extra $20 bucks, buy a 35 series red top, you'll get a battery that will last twice as long with no maintenance. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.?.? What do you think?

Ok, so I plopped in a Diehard from Sears. It'll probably see out the remaining time that I keep the car.
I found out why the stock battery failed - two of the cells were almost empty and the others were all low. It hadn't even occurred to me to check the battery 'cos:
a) All of my previous cars had maintennance free batteries
b) I was taking it to a Subaru dealer for all of its servicing
I was tempted to re-fill it, charge it and see if it would work again, but eventually decided it wasn't worth the effort.
Anyway, the car starts very enthusiatically now
I found out why the stock battery failed - two of the cells were almost empty and the others were all low. It hadn't even occurred to me to check the battery 'cos:
a) All of my previous cars had maintennance free batteries
b) I was taking it to a Subaru dealer for all of its servicing
I was tempted to re-fill it, charge it and see if it would work again, but eventually decided it wasn't worth the effort.
