not between SF & SM, but pretty close....Palo Alto. Miyake's on University (sushi & Japanese) is pretty fun for large groups. Might run a bit more than $18/head, esp w/alcohol, but pretty cool. Oh, no dancing, but got music and it's a lively joint.

there's always the usual....Chevy's, BJ's in Cupertino, D&B's in Milpitas that are popular w/the young'ns. I know some good places in the city, but pretty expensive and kinda older crowd.

Have fun tho, and.............

in SF you can try buca di beppo. Good italian food. designed around large parties. We just had like 18 there the other day.

A few other places great for big groups.....pretty much all in SF. I don't venture out to san mateo enough to have much recommendations out there.

The Last Supper Club (italian, low lit)
Yianni's Greek cuisine

Ton Kiang (dim sum...can get pretty damn expensive quick if you're not careful..I think last time I went there people went crazy....$40 a person)

Tommaso's Restaurant (pizza but it's cool)

might try here www.centralparkbistro.com

Hola in Burlingame! It is a great environment, half bar - half restaurant, excellent Mexican food!

bucca di beppo is all good. "family style" eating where you just get big bowls of pasta and share with your group. It's makes splitting the bill w/ 20 people a lot easier.

Definately a fun atmosphere too - great for parties

There's a place doen by the SF MOMA called The Thristy Bear. Sounds kinda like a gay bar, but its not! I don't remember what the costs are, but it is a brewery/resteraunt so it's got a nice environment. Spanish food I believe.

Thirsty bear is rad. I work literally right around the corner.

Great beer and the dinners are really good. The tapas can be quite tastey as well.

They have an upstairs that could be rad for larger groups......we've used them for work stuff before.

Vapor...what do you do....I always talk about how I'd love to live in a place like the thirsty bear...the layout is incredible.

Side not....funny tapas story. I started working in SF at a very uncultured 20. My first week this guy was retiring. They were throwing him a retirement party at a tapas bar...the thirsty bear. I thought I just got a job with a bunch of freaks. I was like why the hell would I want to go to a TOPLESS bar with a bunch of older ladies, gay dudes and married men that I don't know.

I was like what kind of office goes to topless bars together.

For like 6 months I didn't want to talk to anyone. I learned about a year...year and a half later that it wasn't a topless bar....but a tapas bar......haaaaaaa.

I work at a small architecture office in sf, as an architectural designer (something like that, no formal title). you can associate my office with works such as gordon biersch sf (not the pa or sj stores), firewood cafe, and the fantasia tea cafes in santana row, and rivermark santa clara, among other stuff. i'm glad you like thirsty bear.
