Need help on JDM HIDs

I won the auction on ebay for this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...romZR40QQfviZ1

I didn't pay for them yet, because I found that the ballasts shown in the pics don't look like the OEM factory ones! (After more seaching, I think they are hellas.)
I already sent an email and he confirmed that they are JDM OEM HID...

Anybody can tell wether or not they are, in fact, OEM HID housing? Does it matter? Should I just forget about it?

I use the jdm black chrome oem hid ones... the ballast on mine are slightly bigger and more rectangular then the ones in that ebay link. However, I know for a fact that the jdm black chrome and jdm flat black headlights use different ballast's.

If your iffy on the ballasts why dont you have him take a close up picture of the label on the ballast? It should say subaru and some japanese writing on it IIRC...

I already asked him to take more pictures, but I think it is pretty clear that they are not the the normal JDM ones...I searched on ebay and found one made by Hella that is exactly the same.

does it still worth the money though?

So is there a way to tell if it is (or was) an OEM HID by looking at the light housings?

I don't know what I should do...

As someone else stated this set looks like a non-HID JDM projector housing with an HID conversion. I believe real JDM HID have the ballast attached to the back of the housing and don't use Hella, more like an OEM Panasonic. Don't forget that with JDM housing the light pattern is wrong for the USA and only worst with HIDs, you stand a great chance of being cited. Yes I know there are other members that have/had this setup, but still not the best setup. I had the EDM projector lights with HID conversion. It still caused too much glare. IMO, the way Subaru designed these lights, both the JDM and EDM suck. Use this money for some go-faster parts.

from the looks of it what you have there is not an OEM set up.
new thoes head lights will run you about $750 to $850 and a HID kit will go for about $350 to $400.
HID or not thoes lights arn't the best out there for light output. the projector that subaru uses isn't as good as the one found in other cars. you do get a little glare from the HID kit but they arn't as bad as an HId kit in the stock reflector housing.

ask him to take a pic of the back of the headlights... if there is a wire with orange loom around it then its the hid version headlights, or if the bulb cover has an orange sticker on it then that's the warning sticker for the HID bulb.

The ballasts are oem Hella ballasts, off another car, most likely a bmw or something. I had a similar setup except my headlights were black chrome jdm hid's. from the looks of the wires that are coming out of the ballasts, it looks like he has some connectors on it already so you can just plug and play the ballasts. however, you would still need to splice your stock wiring harness to these lights.

if it was a hid kit retrofited, u should be able to tell by asking him to take a picture of the backside of th eheadlight. i believe you had to drill thru the plastic?

anyways, i have black chrome oem hids, and the ballasts definitely do not look like the ones pictured.
