Need help diagnosing noise

Alright so recently after installing something in my engine bay, I've noticed a noise coming from the engine bay that I *think* wasn't there before. It's coming from about above where intake mani touches heads, and it has sort of a "ticking" sound (not as bad sounding as knock though as heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9LJP1mw0es)

I'm a bit worried that it might be some huge problem like rod knock or a valve problem, as I've been changing the oil at intervals of about 4k-4.5k miles. Though I'm a bit skeptical, as the engine/car has about 17k miles on it.

If anyone in the immediate east bay area (Fremont/ Union city) could help me diagnose this crap and relieve some stress that would be great! Stealership is a bit out of the question right now, as I need to stay in the east bay area.

o yea, car is an 07 WRX sedan w/ stock EJ255

What did you install in the engine bay? Telling us what you did when the sound started, rather than saying you "installed something," would help.

Yeah sorry, forgot to elaborate. It was an hid kit, but thats pretty negligible. Only reason I mentioned this was because I hadn't been in my engine bay since that install.

I hear it when I'm standing in front of the grill, hood open, engine on. I'm wondering if its a couple of bolts that I accidentally dropped on the heads a while ago. But those bolts were only on the right head, not both sides.

Doesn't sound normal. Sounds like metal to metal. Do you see any smoke from exhaust or engine oil filler? If not, it may be a bolt got stuck somewhere. Between heatshield? Between engine mount and subframe?

Yes. The injectors 'tick' when they fire. They aren't very subtle about it.

Really? Did you actually go and listen to it or did he hold the monitor up for you?

Noises are near impossible to diagnose in this manner. Hopefully someone can take a listen. Or get a friend with a similar car and see if theirs does it as well.
