need help deciding on new turbo

alright guys
first off i have a Black 2005 Sti (wingless, vented ChargeSpeed hood and silver BBS's in case u see me in the city) and found out i need a turbo. i dont want to pay 1400 for a new STi turbo when i can upgrade for a bigger turbo and make more of those ponies! anyway i need help on picking out a good one.
currently i have
- Agency Power 3" downpipe
- Agency Power 3" full exhaust (no cats)
- SPT intake
- Stage 2 Tune from Dynocomp (Phx based tune company)

right now im pushing close to 300whp (292) and want to reach 400-450whp. i also want it to be a functional almost daily driven car. any advice would be great! also a recommendations on tuning shops around the bay area that do a good job too! thanks!

Are you looking to make 400-450 on pump gas? And I am guessing you want to keep the turbo to a stock location one?

Cause that really isn't going to happen...

You can look at the ATP stock location 35r turbos but if you have stock internals then your engine is not going to last very long at all pushing anywhere close to 400whp. And I doubt you are going to like the lag with a 35r turbo, or maybe even a 30r turbo to be honest.

If you want anywhere close to that power you would need to be running e85 which would mean injectors about or bigger than 1000cc, new fuel rails, and a turbo that is going to cost you around 1400-1800 and a few other things.

Longevity for a motor with 400-450whp on stock internals is going to be very short. You'd have to build a motor pretty soon with forged internals.

I'd say find a used td06 20g, a fuel pump, and some injectors for that kinda $ then get it tuned. That would probably be good for about 325-350 whp.

^^What Buzzword said. Also if E85 is available where you live you can always go that route for more power. But a 20g on E85 you'd probably need something like 1000-1300cc injectors. Talk to the tuner of your choice and see what they recommend.
I'm running E85 on the stock VF-39 putting down 335whp 400wtq and runs very smooth and pulls like a bat out of hell

from the sound of it 400whp to 450whp is a little out of reach so ill settle with around 350whp. thanks Buzzword.

Blouch 20g XTr seems to be the hot ticket these days for a good all around turbo.

If you can I deffinately agree run E-85 which will require upgraded injector which DW is running a buy back special right now.

GST is right over the bridge from you why dont you try give them a call 510-264-9049..

Good luck keep us posted on your progress and power.

AP-junk in my opinion. you can find used injectors and turbos.
for a street car a 20g is a solid choice. i love mine and im having a hard time going to something larger. it drives like stock but it friggin flys.

OG fp green was a fun turbo in my opinion, mine put down 333/325 to the ground. Very responsive and street friendly. Honestly, you'll be impressed how much faster going from 290 whp to the 325-350whp range is, it will be very noticable. Call your tuner like everyone is saying, they'll send you in the right direction for your price range.

1: Speak to Ed or another good tuner

2: consider just replacing the stock turbo with a used one for now

3: Know now that putting on a bigger turbo and going for those power number is a VERY slippery slope. Expect to have an empty wallet and need a second car for the downtime. And then there is the **** that breaks...
