need help ASAP - HID install
I'm installing USDM STI hids in my WRX... I'm using the wiring harness from Wagons_ho!, so no soldering, just plug and play.
I got everything wired up, and ever time I turn on the headlights the 15A fuse for both lights blow. What the hell am I doing wrong? Do I need a higher amp fuse?
My WRX is sitting in the garage w/o lights now... going to the auto parts store for some more 15A fuses
Anyone????

when i went to look up info on the hid installs, it seems that people were blowing the 15a fuse because the moment you turn on the headlights, it would draw more current than 15amp due the ballast/ignitor whichever one.
People stuck a 20 amp fuse in there and it seemed to work fine. That is what i've read.
On my car's hid, aaron (international B) helped me put them in using relays and i've had ZERO problems with them, using the original fuse that was already in the car.

I switched to 20amp and those blew right away too. From all the install pages I've read, none mentioned a relay. But if it works, then I guess I'll have to do the same.
mcgower -- yes... I need help! How did I install a relay system?

Car Info: 2004 Black WRX wagon
hey man,
i installed some HIDs on my wagon in the winter... I might be able to help you out. If not, i have a bunch of friends who are technicians. lol. i opted to solder because it's pretty easy to go back to stock.
what kind of kit?
subimonkey: lots of places like Gruppe-S have em. I got my kit from Taiwan. Complete knock off of HELLA.
-gl with the install man.

just a quick question: Where did you get your lights? I'd be worried that they were off a stripped STI. Not worried that anything would suck for me, but just worried that I'm supporting the car thief/chop shop market.

jonp -- I got them off another I-club member. He bought a wrecked STI to fix, but the damage was so bad he had to part out.
Escanflowne -- yup, I'll post pics. And nope, still no fenders

jonp -- if you really want stock HIDS, you may want to check out jdmpartstx.com. They have a few JDM STI HIDs available at around $680. Note that the beam pattern is setup for RHD, so they are illegal in the US.

Turns out the harness I bought was miswired. I'm getting a new harness soon.
Thanks for all the replies.

The harness itself it built well, all OEM connectors and weatherproofed. You'll pay more for it than a DIY job, but it's completely plug-and-play. Except in my case The power/ground's were swapped and that's why my fuses were blowing. I'm getting a new set sent soon and I'll post the results.
I'll PM you his email address
BTW -- make sure you let him know everything (your model year, the lights model year, etc). It turns out that 2004 and 2005 are slightly different. The power/ground to the ballast are reversed.
