Hey guys! I know there are a lot of you who can install almost anything into a car and im coming up on my 100k service.

I need someone to install/ help me install a timing belt kit with waterpump, a/c and steering belts and also swap out my radiator hoses and ancillary hoses. I was thinking about getting a new radiator to even things out too.

Let me know if you can help out one of these weekends in santa cruz.
Needs to be completed over the weekend since its a DD.
No set time this needs to be done by, its just a PM right now.

The local subie shop wants $600 to install all of this and i can offer half of that and buy you lunch. Also have a few GD parts to trade as well.

If you arent a mechanic, then atleast shoot me some references that can vouche for your work!

Thanks in advance.

Damn, $600 is actually a really good price. I take it he isn't using OEM parts.

Let me know, not looking for novice help, i need an actual mechanic that is confident about setting timing on my car.

An actual mechanic isn't going to need to be confident about setting timing on your car. If they are competent, the timing belt job will be done properly, and you won't need to set timing.
You're confusing me a bit on your timing - this is a daily driver, so it must be done over the weekend, but there's no set time to do this?
I'm not sure that any competent mechanic is really going to want your help - especially when his reputation is on the line.

I think he's trying to say that he isn't in a immediate rush to get it done. There is no deadline. But he wants someone to make it super cheap by doing it in his garage, on the weekend when he doesn't need his car.

I need my timing belt replaced. Im sorry if setting timing is not relivent to lining up the belt right on the pullys correctly.

Im really either looking for someone to do the labor for about 300 bucks or show me for some cash and some beers while working on it.

Im sorry you misunderstood my posting to that degree.
Maybe you should step back and look at the whole picture like baliztik lol. He had no problem understanding and in turn, correcting you.

All this aside Erich aka pigboat has offered to help when i get my hands on a radiator.

Thanks BAIC!

$600 for parts and labor is a killer deal. $600 for labor may be a little steep depending on your expectations. If you do go with a weekend warrior tech, make sure they know a good amount about our engines. even the minor things like knowing how and what direction to rotate DOHC cams to avoid internal valve clash (due to shape of cam lobe). Knowing how to set belt guide on cranks and cams, etc. Sometimes it may be a good idea to have a shop do it. ESPECIALLY with something like timing in our cars (interf). GL bud! I may know a few people and or shops. shoot me a PM and im sure i can get u take care of!

If I wasn't headed out of town, I'd offer to do it for $400 at my shop. There are plenty of competent techs on this forum though if your budget is low. Send Anthony (xhengman) a PM.

kinda off topic, not really: I was mentioning to OP about the Gates water pumps and gaskets. I personally have heard 80% of reviews being negative and remember there was a thread visually showing the differences between the two. Others say Gates WP is completely fine. I personally have always run OEM pumps with the Gates timing kit.

Ive searched for it and for the life of me cant find it. Can someone chime in with that link? its great info for others in the future as well IMO
