No I don't have the right tools and my local "mechanic" is currently in Sacramento (haha Kyle). I also want to get it done right. Hearing noises when you "DIY" can be pretty nerve racking.

Also the top hats are as tight as I could possibly get them. Can't use a torque wrench on them because the strut spins freely. I have to use a L key and a regular wrench.

Are you using stock tophats or camber plates?

I believe they are RCE blank top hats.

I would but they are pretty far away and I don't trust the car right now to travel that far.

Custom Alignment in Mountain View is great do it all suspension shop! Suspension work, alignment, tire installation and etc. Has been using them since 2004 - never had a single problem.

Another one is Borelli Motorsports (ask for Dave from former "Performance Art"). Both shops are pricy though.

I had a good experience with Brandon Kraus at Roger Kraus Racing. He's a racer too (current US Touring car champion) so you can tell him what you want out of your car and he will give advice about alignment settings.

If the shop does alignments too then they will cut you a break in price if you have suspension fitted and an alignment at the same time.

X1 on Kraus too... And your right about getting everything done at one place.

The sears point shop does everything as well. But seeing he is way south. I'd make Kraus my 1st stop.

The OEM top hats fit worse than the top hats I had on there before. The top piece that's in between the strut and the top hat doesn't go down all the way. I'm pretty much fed up with these coilovers now.

I've had positive experiences at both Mann and Custom alignment. I think the way to chose one vs. the other has to do with the nature of the problem. Mann is Subaru specific and Custom Alignment isn't. In this case both should definitely be able to service your coilovers.

Oh I forgot to mention I took them to Auto Innovations and they showed me the incompatibility of the top hats and coilovers.

Of the new ones or the ones that were on there?

Did they recommend a fix or do you just need to put the other top hats on there and sell them to someone who's car they fit?

Both don't fit correctly. When I get home I'll post up some pictures of what I mean. The (spring perch?) in between the strut and top hat doesn't go down all the way so there isn't enough thread on the stud for the OEM top hat and the ball head top hat that I currently have also sucks and gets loose enough to clunk.

Ok here's my suspension:

As you can see there is no space at all for that strut. For some reason in the very top picture, the hole in that top piece isn't big enough to go all the way down to the bottom like the one in this picture
