Need front bumper repair: any suggestions?

Hello Bay Area iclubbers,

Some jerk just backed into my car with his truck. Thankfully I was parked as no one was hurt and he has current insurance. I've made the claim to my insurance company and will wait to hear back from them with a claim #.

The damage is to the front bumper, basically his rear bumper smashed up the license plate, the area above the plate, and a few other spots on the left and right side.

Any suggestions for where to bring the car for repairs? I brought my car to Ocean Garage for mechanical repairs before and they did a great job but never had body work done there. Any experiences or suggestions for repair shops is much appreciated!

I'm pissed off the guy hit my car and then claimed I was committing insurance fraud (he claims there's no damage, obviously he can't see my bent license plate and the gashes all over the bumper, he must be legally blind and operating a vehicle GREAT!), plus he stole my insurance card. Argh! Oh well hopefully a shiny new bumper will make things <almost> right.

Thanks and enjoy the holidays!

bankman: if you can find a group buy for fixing the front bumper, I'd be interested in going in too. I have a 4" by 4" patch on my front bumper that's webbed and indented from a 5mph tap - so I want to get mine repaired as well.

Do these bumpers have a "skin" that can be replaced, or does the entire bumper have to be taken off and a new one stuck on?

If any body shops/speed shops/vendors want to chime in with their group buy info, I'm open to checking it out.

they are skins that can be removed, showing the actual bumper beam.

is that 300 buck respray for the bumper on the car? would it be cheaper if you brought them just the bare skin off the car?

My insurance company gave me a claim # and contacted a body shop that I've had good experience with in the past, F. Lofrano & Sons fairly close to my house. I've got an appointment for the coming week to get an estimate there and will wait and hear from the insurance company after they've talked to the blind and deaf man who hit the car. Sweet.

BTW thanks for the input folks! bay area iclub, you guys are good people

i noticed when you repaint its never the same, i think it chips up alot easier. Or i might have been getting crappy resprays.
