I'm more interested about the quality. I don't think the prices are too bad in comparison to some things I've seen. I'm shopping around. Just wondering what some good choices are.
I bought a random $300 one that Sacramento black rifle built and I've put close to 7,000 rounds through it and havnt had a problem with anything. I guess if my life depended on my rifle I'd buy something more pricey but I've been very pleased with this one so far.
seems like that $300 one is doing the job if you put close to 7k rounds through it.
i'd worry more if you put less than 100 rounds through a $1k upper and you depending your life on it...
If I knew I was going into a life or death situation I would want the best components money could buy. But for something to just go dump rounds through it made sense for me to go this route.

PMC usually does a run on good 223 ammo and it is reasonably priced.
I have a model 1 upper which I hear are jusk but it was cheap and it has worked very well for me. I have it in 16" with compensator. I got the bull barrel an chrome moly chamber.
Mine is chambered in 5.56 so I can shoot military ammo if needed and .223 but you cant fire 5.56 through a rifle chambered in .223.
You can remove the front gas block with sight attached on most rifles. I think it is held on by a couple of roll pins. its a pita to do though and I would reccommend having a shop do it if you wanted to upgrade to a flat top gas block in the future.
My next purchase is a new piston operated upper chambered in 6.8 just for kicks.

I would run wolf if I didn't mind the fact that they're steel case... I shoot pmc and match grade ammo only... alway been more of a coin shooter vs a tactical run and gunner. but my rule of thumb when it comes to ammo... if you can get a 1000 rounds for 300 or less then it's a good deal.
overall length of barrel has to be over 16" so you can get a 14.5" barrel but make sure you pin / weld the flash hider/ comp or whatever you put on there so its over 16".

stag upper. LARGE selection, accurate, priced very well. i got the 1/9 twist lined. shooting 55gr redline and 62gr green tip redline i easily stay inside 2"x2" square. ill post pics later.
if your not going to war, only shoot for fun and or defense theres no need to drop insane money on one. YHM,stag,RRA are all great uppers. check out calguns for uppers. i found 3 on one page.

because its fun as hell to shoot, you can use the same lower. and for the record i know for a fact a .22 can and will kill. and i dont just mean cats/rats and targets. took a blacktail 4 years ago with a head shot at 50yrds. was a last resort shot but it did its job.
