need advice on issues with capitol subuaru
ok guys i need some help/advice
first off, I love capitol subaru, and especially justin and ivan.
but here's the story.
this past monday I took my 08 wrx in for a regular oil change and inspection.
they were a little busy, but said they would fit me in. When I got the paperwork back, the inspection had everything green except the tires which were marked yellow. The time before that was my 30k service, and while I didn't get an inspection sheet at that time, I was informed that my breaks and clutch were ok and I should be fine through the summer.
On Monday evening on the way home from work, my girlfriend was driving down the freeway and the car just started vibrating loudly. She said it seemed like the clutch was stuck down. By the time we got home, we confirmed this theory by the strong smell. So the next morning we took it straight in to Capitol and the clutch had to be replaced.
now here's my problem... not only did the clutch have to be replaced, but so did the flywheel... the clutch was THAT BAD. AND Ivan informed me that subaru would not cover the flywheel under the powertrain warranty???? That was an extra $330 part that should NOT have needed replacing if i KNEW that the clutch needed replacing... I honestly believe I should be reimbursed for this... but I am curious what you guys think? I like that dealership, but I have a feeling a few of the techs don't actually do the inspections that I pay for with my oil changes, and that is the best way to gauge when things need replacing.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to call coporate, but what do you all think?

well thats odd that the flywheel isnt covered under warranty... as for changing the fly wheel i have had 2 different subarus and have gone throught 3 clutches everytime i changed the flywheel. iam pretty sure you need to change it or at least have the original one re surfaced so it doesnt mess up the new clutch put in.

It could have been a hydraulic failure which would cause the pedal to not come up. That's near impossible to inspect for during an oil change. What was the CAUSE of the clutch problem? Did they tell you that? How many miles on the vehicle? Is it 'abused'? Be honest with that one.
There are a lot more factors that need to be considered. There is information missing.
As far as the flywheel goes... it can be covered, but it depends on the circumstances. I can't say too much and don't want to put anyone in a hard place. Dealers are allowed to goodwill items. I don't work at Capitol. I have no idea how they do things. I wasn't there to see the flywheel nor do I know the entire situation. It's impossible to say if it should have been covered or not without all the facts.
If you really, really feel like you need to call SOA - 800-SUBARU-3
I advise you to try to work it out with Capitol before you take that step.

For future ANYTHING, do not attend a dealership, go to AutoHQ, they will take care of you for a cheaper price on anything, whether it's the services or just modding your car. As for the current situation, Unit91 covered the basics. There are a handful of things that could have gone wrong. What did the dealership say the cause was?
Justin and Ivan push for SOA to give you as much as they can, they are normally on the customers side. You can try going to Stevens Creek, but in my experience, their service department are dicks. Had one thing installed there and I felt I was getting choppered from behind.

AutoHQ isn't going to be doing ANYTHING under warranty.
I'm going on the assumption that the vehicle is still under 3/36 until I have more information.
Please bend over and spread them.
Yea, I'd try to get it for free too, but he mentioned going in for a 30k service, which I figured he should just go to AutoHQ for a cheaper price and great service =P

I disagree with you on that one. Doesn't sound out of the range of what it should be. It still takes time and time is what you're charged for. I wonder what warranty pays to do that...
I stopped getting oil changes done at stealerships b/c I check the oil on a level surface right after they do the change and the oil level is a half-inch over the expansion mark, every single time, except once.
I go to the dealership to have them do the inspections and basic rotation, balance, alignment. Maintenance is really so-so. AHQ gets nitty gritty with the details.
