so once the xbox is opened the warranty is voided? I'm debating whether or not i should have my friend mod it or not. I'll be saving alot of money on games but will be wasting my extended warranty that i bought.

 

I remember buying an original XBOX the day it came out, and I had the same issues.


If I was to pick up a 360 now, would these problems all be fixed?

 

Once the Wii/PS3 came out, Microsoft extended the 360 warranty from 90 days to 1 yr. Yes, opening the Xbox will void your warranty since you will break the little foil stickers to get to the screws.

I always get the Best Buy replacement plan for my video game hardware. Any problems and they just replace it for you. Totally worth the 30 bucks. Note, this is different than the service plans they offer for most other things where they try to fix it instead of replace it.

Many people in the thread have sent back their broken, modded (firmware flashed) 360's back to MS without the silver MS sticker and successfully got a replacement. I've also heard that if you out of warrenty and complain to MS, they have the authority to reduce the fees in half ($70).

 

I talked to my friend at Funcoland and he is replacing it for the new black Xbox. They dont have anymore of the white ones in so im getting lucky. I dont know what the difference is between the two but it looks cooler. It still sucks that im gonna lose all my saved games.

 

memory cards rule, is there no way to back up your games? i wouldnt know, i have a ps2
