Unhappy my tranny is gone...Looking for solutions

I'm sooo screwed...

Last night, I was was driving and I grinded 2nd gear. I didn't put the cluth all the way in I think. I wasn't racing or anything. But after grinding 2nd. I couldn't put it in that gear. SOOO My stupid a** FORCED it in.

Now.. it goes in gear. But it dosen't move my car. I also have a loud clanky noise when my car is moving.

1st and Reverse are sometimes hard to get into. 2nd don't work. 3rd 4th 5th are easier getting in than before.

my questions are..
1) WTF happened to my tranny
2) Repairable? and how much to?
3) ANYONE HAVE A OEM tranny for sale in the Sanjose Area? (for a 03 wrx sedan)
4) does aftermarket clutch void's the warrenty for the tranny?

OH... and i have a very big ordeal...I just lost my job...so I really need the best solutions..pls.. can anyone help?..

That's exactly what happened to me in my 03 WRX over the summer. I wasn't racing it or anything, I shifted into second, and SNAP!, I sheared the teeth in second gear. I had to take both hands and jam it out of gear. Right after that, I could get it into first and then skip to third (it WOULD NOT go back in second), but a few miles down the road (I had to drive it home) I couldn't get it into first at all, but if/when I did, 3, 4, and 5 gear wouldn't work. I could hear the teeth at the bottom of the tranny case rattle the entire time. So over the course of the next few months I feathered the clutch majorly and started in third everywhere and used 3, 4, and 5th gear. I had to drive it because it was my only source of transportation at the time. My reverse continued to work over this whole ordeal. Cons of driving a car with a busted tranny for two months after? I ended up screwing my front differential up, too, so I had to replace that. $500 for a rebuilt stock one. I ended up going with a rebuilt stock front diff, v. 6 STi type RA gears, ACT Streetlite flywheel, and an Exedy Sport clutch. All in all, parts and labor cost me $4000. Nice upgrade, but I could've sure used the money. Cheapest route is going to be buying a used WRX tranny and hope you didn't bust anything else in there and hope the next one doesn't break. Most expensive yet most reliable would be a 6 speed STi swap.

Almost positive the dealership is going to blame it on your driving style and your upgraded clutch. People are having a hard enough time getting busted trannys fixed under warranty on stock components. I guess you could look into rebuilding your trans with stock gears again, but the labor for rebuild and ordering parts from Subaru will most likely be more than picking up a used tranny. Unless you only screwed up 2nd gear, and that's it. But you most likely need to replace more than that (including synchros, bearings, possibly shifter forks, etc.). Call Gruppe-S and S Squared and see what they have in stock. The reason I had to wait two months is because the RA gears were on back order. They may have some trannys in stock now.

I would dress up nice like you are going for a job interview, and take it to the dealership.
Didn't you get this car used anyways? Just say you are more for bling then speed if they ask. Tell them the ladies love the hood scoop. lol. Tell them what happened, just driving along and then this happened.

LOL. nah..I got it brandnew over the summer is 02. But if they look at it, and they see the clutch and all this bull crud. Their gonna say I abused or wutever they called it right?. so my best bet is to find a used tranny for sale.

damn, '03 with less than 17k miles and you've got an aftermarket clutch in there already?

that fact might raise some brows as to how you use the car. you may want to take it into Subaru anyway and see what they can do. at this point, you've got very little to lose...Gruppe-S will still cost you $2k+.

totally understand...

but i think you should really look into RA gears cause you clearly love beating your car to a pulp and getting stock gears for another 17k sounds worthless

yeah, my clutch started to really slip at 12,000 miles. I had my License suspended for 2 years. BLAH. damn cops. But when I got it back. I was scared to do anything. my car had 8K when I started driving again. then around 12,000 down the months. It was slippin really bad. So thats why I got it replaced. ALL I need is a tranny...used or new, but used perferably. I have a cousin that owns a shop. He hooks it up reallllllll nice. But I'm looking for the damn tranny!..

He said it might be cheaper looking for a used one rather than getting all the accessories and rebuilding the damn thing
