Dude, for a course design that favored high horsepower, gilberts 2nd run was still faster than Mark's best run in his WRX...

Most courses aren't this fast, so more than likely, the car was capable of some serious fast times. It was sick, you should have been there.

if you want to get a motor for cheap, give these guys a call, they will deliver the motor free, and have a pretty large stock.

http://www.attarco.com/

Get a complete EZ30 motor for $1700, or a twin turbo EJ20TT for $900.

i took a look, the EZ30 they have is not the EZ30R which is the tribeca motor which is the one you would want for a swap. the EZ30s they have are the older ones out of outbacks

The course workers are there to get cones and make sure the course is safe, not make snap mechanical diagnoses in the span of a few seconds on a car racing by

Also for those proposing the engine swaps, keep in mind that no swaps are legal in the autocross class Gagan has been running and (presumably) is intending to keep running with this car.

I personally think that the 2.5RS can, on a course-dependent basis, be a better car in STX than a WRX. Something like Sunday's course with relatively few acceleration zones (IF the car can hang the turns quicker than a heavier car with better acceleration) would be just such a course . Something with lotsa tight turns that the ONLY way to go fast is to accelerate out of the turns....umm, not so much for the 2.5RS

Actually, because of the TQ, the tighter the course, the better it is for the RS... the Longer, or more open, the worse it is for the RS. This I have observed over the last few years.

I was mainly posting about Attarco because they usually will sell long blocks for cheap.

They have a much larger selection then what is on the website, so I would recommend giving them a call.

Interesting and would not have guessed that....wonder what the difference is in TQ per car weight between your car and an STX-tuned WRX in wheel torque between 30-50 MPH in second gear? I know the WRX would blow it away from 50-65 MPH (at least in no small part because you're not in 2nd gear in that MPH range while a WRX is topping out 2nd), but below that it probably is a lot closer. Never did chassis-dyno my WRX in STX-tune, and it's too late now (back to bone-stock on tuning AND intake/exhaust).

BTW, the torque out of corners is why my Impala SS does surprisingly well on "tight" courses but "not so well" on transition-heavy courses. The gearing I have in it is not street-optimal (I have 3.73s with a fairly tall first gear = boggy out of the hole, and 4.10s or 4.56s work better), but it pulls like a PO'ed **** between 30-65 MPH (where it tops out 2nd) .

I make 120 awtq at 1,400rpm... and only gain about 25 more by 4,000rpm. My torque is always there, and the car weighs about 2850lbs, so it feels just takes off. I can be at 3,000rpm or 5,000 rpm, it will shoot out of corners well.

Unfortuneately, having no real amount of HP (136awhp at 5,400rpm) means it will not accelerate very quickly once you get going down the short straights. Nationals has shown me that it's all about speed maintinence, but teaching myself that, and trying to learn and develope all the other things about driving fast at the same time is quite challenging.

If I could squeeze 10 more whp out of the car, and stick most turns 5-10mph faster, then I could shift to third and stay in third nearly the entire autoX. basically, a set of v710's could get me there, but it would take a driver and a car like Gilbert's DSP Impreza to acomplish that.

I got many years to reach that point.

But yeah, I think my car could beat out most in STX, it's already capable of doing so, but I don't have the car control to do this. I think that it also needs some suspension tweaks that make it more race worthy, and going to Dwayne for help with that will pay off.

But first, a new block. Then we'll see how much I can prepare for 2007.
